What costs $292 each?
Or $1170.35 ?
Four brand new Cooper Stronghold tires that's what! 60,000 mile rating, load range E, 10 ply.
I've been really happy with Cooper tires, nothing but good .
Yes they are a bit on the aggressive side but no road noise( window down & radio off) that I could hear.

Re: What costs $292 each?
Anyone ever gotten the advertised mileage out of a set of tires? Even doing mostly freeway driving I have never gotten advertised gas mileage or tire life. Come to think of it, batteries aren’t all that truthful about service life.
The best tires I’ve had for pickups were BF Goodrich KO’s. I think they are on their third generation. When these crappy stock Toyos die that’s what I’ll put on my Tacoma. They aren’t the highest mileage rated tire, but they provide great traction and stability.

Re: What costs $292 each?
I've not really kept track of miles on tires, however the cooper's I put on my 07 Ram diesel are still on it from about 2010 if I remember correctly, they have about 40k on them and still a decent amount of life left on em. Sadly the rest of the truck is rotting away.
I had the BFG KOs on my Rubicon and they were great in mud and snow but wet pavement in sharp turns ya had to watch out.

Re: What costs $292 each?
Back when I was working I drove little 2wd single cab Toyota Tacomas and on several occasions I got over 100K with Michelin tires. At that time I was driving about 800 miles per week.
Re: What costs $292 each?
My first Tundra came with Michelins. They were a great street tire. But at the time I was working on prison construction in the High Desert. Even with the relatively coarse sand there they were pretty poor off pavement. Since I had KO's on my Jeep (which from time to time I would take there and play a bit), I put them on the Tundra and never looked back. On a 2 WD pickup, even with a locking diff, you need good traction off pavement.
Never had any issues with cornering or wet pavement, and they did okay in snow. But like anything but a studded tire, handling on ice sucked.

I have a leak in my left rear tire on my mustang...and they won't patch it.
Plenty of miles left on the tire too...anyway...460 bucks each for perelli p-zeros

Re: What costs $292 each?
One of the reasons ( besides almost bald) why I replaced my tires was one with a slow leak. I finally got tired of topping it off and put a 5 second squirt of tire sealant in it. As soon as I did that I had an OH Sπ|€ ! moment when I realized the air pressure sensor! Anyhow the sensor is working fine.

Re: What costs $292 each?
RIHMFIRE, what's the excuse for not wanting to patch it? Is it in the sidewall or is there Fix-A-Flat in the tire? There is Fix-A-Flat that's not supposed to affect tire pressure sensors and also the older style that does kill them. I know about that type. I have also had tire shops refuse to patch/plug a tire because there was a string plug in it.
Even the tire shops admit that Fix-A-Flat is an excellent product. I would certainly try that before buying new tires.

Re: What costs $292 each?
Shops usually won’t repair tires with temporary fixes. It’s not that it can’t be done. It’s purely a liability thing. Blame the lawyers.
Also, don’t have an accident running recaps. Between the other guys lawyers and your insurance company you’re screwed.

Re: What costs $292 each?
Jeepnik, I don't think it's even a lawyer issue. I think the tire shops are in the business of selling tires and if you don't play their game then you're on your own. I cannot imagine that there's a liability issue with Fix-A-Flat. There's nothing that is more of a hazard than the tire leaking down which rarely happens because it's a good product.

Re: What costs $292 each?
The fix a flat stuff can be dangerous supposedly an explosion risk.
Last month when my truck was in for a multi day recall I was given a loaner, it had a plug in the SIDEWALL! That's illegal here and the dealership would easily lose a court case if someone driving it had a blowout accident . When I showed it to the service guy he replied it still has a lot of tread.

Re: What costs $292 each?
We put a set of Cooper STT Pros on my dad's old TJ a couple years ago. I'd never owned them, but a bunch of guys in my Jeep club run them with excellent performance. Dad's old Jeep doesn't get a lot of miles, but they have been great so far. Noise? Well, that's not a concern for us.

Haha yeah. Old Red has enough rattles you can't hear em anyway. Or the radio for that matter!

Re: What costs $292 each?
I had Coopers on a Ram 2500. They were great off rosd but in the snow, they did not grip too good....not bad but not near as good as BF Goodrich K2's. I live where we have snow 5 months out of the year. The K2's just grip better in the snow for me.
Re: What costs $292 each?
Now that the KO’3 is out it means the 2’s are likely discontinued. I’m hoping my 2’s last until I have to quit Jeeping. I’ve heard they’ve changed both the tread design and rubber compound for better on road performance. That will mean poorer off road performance. Particularly in rocks. Time will tell.

Re: What costs $292 each?
Old Red is put up winters, so it's not an issue. I have BFG KM2s on the other TJ, and they have been great, but again, it's put up winters.
My Gladiator has Falken Wild Peak M/Ts. I run it year round and I can honestly say they are the best mudder I've ever seen in snow. The tread blocks have a lot of siping, and they perform great year round. When they go, I will definitely get another set, just bigger.

Re: What costs $292 each?
my favorite tires were Goodrich, and absolute worst were MIchelins.
I never come close to wearing out the tread. Mine blow while parked and I come out to find a flat.

Down here you can forget about plugging a tire at a tire store....liability BSWalt wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 10:36 am RIHMFIRE, what's the excuse for not wanting to patch it? They won't patch the tire because, their electronic hand-held gage says there is not enough tread left.
There's no f'n tread on the tire to begin with. These are rated at 186 mph

I live in Mesquite country so I’m particular about my truck tires.
Tires are really expensive now but I’m betting they will be considered a bargain one day.

Re: What costs $292 each?
My 4x4 Crewcab Dually came with Goodyear Wranglers on it... silly 215-75/16s... but they went over 80,000 miles. But as I've done on EVERY p/u I've owned, I upped tire size, this time to 235/85/16s. And use a more aggressive tire tread. I'm also in Mesquite country, and being on black mud, that heavy diesel can sink pretty quick, a bit more flotation to the tire is a good thing. As for tire mileage?... sorry, my car/p-u/farm tractor tires tend to dry rot before they wear out. This p/u is 19 years old, and just turned over 100K. The little ½ton is 21 years old and has under 75,000... both only on their 2nd set of tires. Heck, my '91 Camaro has 190,000 miles on it and is only on its 3rd set of tires. Again, pretty well dry rotted... no American company makes its tire size anymore. An engine rebuild/replacement is in its near future, along with an increase to HP, I want to upgrade the brakes,to 4wheel disc & change to a 6 speed manual from its current 5 speed manual.
