Do they eliminate the need to slug the bore for fit ?

Not really. Still need to know if your bullets are too large, or too small. Once the bore is slugged a hollowbase bullet is more forgiving if it's slightly smaller than groove diameter. It only takes a couple minutes to slug a bore, so not sure why it would be a step to skip.

I don’t have any soft lead hanging around.

I found that hollow based bullets shoot equally well in a number of.45 Colt revolvers with varying throats and bore sizes.

These seem to shoot very well though they are sized .452 and some of my throats are larger and some smaller.

I’m betting that those will work very well.

Go to your local sporting goods store and either buy lead split shot for fishing, or buy muzzleloader balls. I keep two boxes of ML balls in .45 and .38 calibers, and use them for all my slugging. Just sit the ball on the muzzle, and use a brass hammer to tap it until the ball is flat. The excess lead will cover the crown and you can see the shape of the muzzle. Then use a brass punch smaller than bore size and tap the ball deeper into the bore, and the excess will shear off. I continue to tap the ball in until the punch length is used. Then use a cleaning rod to tap the ball back out and measure it with a micrometer, not a dial caliper. Need an accurate measurement and dial calipers really aren't as accurate as a micrometer.
