One of those days

Post by GunnyMack »

A month ago I had an appointment to have 4 recalls done on my truck. I waited for it. They could only do 3 at the time. The last was going to take a day at least.
So I had to reschedule with the use of a loaner to today.
Get to the dealership and I'm told that they would do their best to have it back to me today.
Having a rain day today I figure good I'll just go home and wait, this afternoon or tomorrow I can get my truck back. Then my phone rings- the dealer... can't be good.
We are sorry that we don't have the parts, won't be here until next week. You can keep the loaner until we are done with your truck. Grrrrrr.
Ok, I scheduled this a month ago so this wouldn't happen but yet it has. Always my luck. Thankfully I'm not responsible for mileage, just gas.
Now for my rant!
I know, I know common sense says the parts guy should have been aware of this appointment and made sure parts were on hand. Or whoever is responsible for getting parts in stock should watch inventory better. I did inventory control for 10 years and knew how to anticipate what to get and when.
That being said, they didn't, couldn't,wouldn't use common sense which causes the customer problems.
I hate incompetence.
Mini rant:
Dealership spent a year doing a new service drop off area. Has a very impressive fast opening overhead door, pull through area that's 4 or 5 cars deep and a collum about halfway through...? Who thought this up? It's a clear span steel truss roof system. Support columns un needed. This combined with the 3 desk areas , 1 printer that each time a service person hits PRINT they have to get up and walk through waiting customers to get paperwork. Oh and the waiting customers are stuck standing as the 'bright spark ' that envisioned this new service area could have pushed this glass wall back to the collum in the drive through area creating seating. Again lack of common sense!
So my being a semi wisea.. I said that the designer should have his crayons taken away and that they should either buy more printers or put up a clothes line so the guy with the printer can just pin the papers to it and send it on its way.
Over.

Like everything else in this world.....go to my dealership and buy parts. they have to walk across the lot 75' to service because that's where the cc printer is. Express service oil change $94.00. average wait 1 1/2 hours.I can do it myself in 25 minuet's for $45.00. local heating company I've dealt with for 40 years sends Me a flyer Wednesday about hot water heaters, just to see what they would charge I call for an estimate and they tell Me there is a $99.00 fee for a tech to come out .No way.! It's not going to get better. This world is upside down.

The rear cabin vents rotted out in my 2018 Ram. I got on the Ram forum and was immediately given the appropriate Mopar part number. Called my local Ram dealer and they didn't have the part and said they couldn't get it for weeks, maybe months.
Got on Amazon and had the two vents two days later. Watched a couple of Youtubes and replaced the vents in about 20 minutes, including the recommended modification to allow the rear seat back to fold down.
What do you do about a Dodge dealer who can't get parts for months that you can have delivered in 48 hours -- and for less? I do let them change my oil as it's tough for me getting up and down and crawling around under my rig with the back fusions.

I know what cosmetic damage my truck has and I'm going to go over it before I drive off for sure. Actually the service guy and I did a walk around before doing anything else.

In a former life, I was a "parts guy"... One of my prized possessions is my Chevy '49-'72 truck parts book. I have the parts book for my Camaro, both newer pickups, and my Ford Tractor... I don't trust either the skills of the parts geek behind the counter at the parts store, or the Chevy house. Rock Auto, that's a different story... those're folks after my own heart!

GRRRRRRRR!
Let's see, today is what, Wednesday? Still no truck but the dealer called me about 130 to tell me I have a flat tire. Ok now I'm getting hot under the collar.
What's wrong with the tire? It's flat, has it been leaking? No if it was I would have fixed it! Well you should replace it. No, YOU SHOULD PUT AIR IN IT AND SEE IF IT STILL LEAKS. But the tech doesn't want to drive it. Look air the tire up, drive it into the shop and do the scheduled recall and watch the tire. Plug it if it's got a hole- I'm not buying a tire. If it's damaged it happened there on your lot.
Well lots of spitting and sputtering from the service guy.
I'm sure he or someone on staff went out and let the air out of the tire in an attempt to sucker me.
So after work I drive to the dealer, hey my truck has been moved! That's a start.
I walk through the showroom with steam coming out of my ears. A saleslady asks how my day is, TERRIBLE. Is there anything I can do? I raised my voice a little and said ' I'm about to become irate, do you really want to help ME?'
She turned away even though the whole place was looking at me.
Into service I go, a woman is in the managers office. A gentle rap on the door, are you the service manager? No, so in so is. Is she here? No. Can you smell the smoke yet?
She introduced herself as the service coordinator, how can I help you.
I said I'm about to become irate about my truck.
So I calmed myself down and explained the month prior booking of the appointment and they didn't have the parts. That's not right she says. I'm thinking to myself no $&|¥ Sherlock.
Then I explained to her about the call from the little weasel* an hour earlier about having a flat tire. Oh he shouldn't have called you about that.
No a mechanic, excuse me a tech, would put air in the tire and drive it into the shop.
Now, I want to SEE my truck.
Into the shop, lookee there a brand new valve stem cap, and Schrader valve.
I knelt down and ran my hands around the tire, nope no nails, punctures, cuts. I looked up at her and said, let's see, you lot is not fenced, truck has been sitting out by the road since Friday . I suspect you have a vandalism problem here? I could see her deflate as she replied yes, the little bast..ds usually steal center caps off wheels.
So if my truck is here and say a tire gets slashed, who pays for that? We do. EXACTLY.
This is the last time this dealer will see me. Second time they have pizzed me off. Nope, no 3 strikes.

* Weasel, this kid just rubs me the wrong way. If you looked at him you would see the stereotypical shady, beady eyed, greased back hair including a cigarette in his ear used car salesman.
So they promised me to have it done this week...
