my 255 45S can penetrate 62 inches of ballistic gel. no contest there.

it is pathetic to compare 45 hollow points to a solid projectile. and to not state the bullet weights. it is absolutely like calling lemon slime a watermelon. oh my goodness...

The .45's they shot with the Hornady critical defense rounds did exactly what they were designed to do. expand dramatically at close range. As far as penetration I'd bet that even the old 900fps round nose 255grain bullet would amaze these "experts".

I killed a 1400+ pound Hereford cow using my 1st Generation Colt SAA loaded with the old #454190 factory-type bullet and a full load of 3Fg Black Powder under it. When she put her head down to take a bite of range cubes I shot her in the sweet spot. The bullet went clear through her skull and buried itself in the ground. She hit the dirt and barely kicked. We got some fine steaks off her.

A co-worker was selling His Blackhawk .45 Colt/acp in the early 80's . He needed big power and found it in the Super Blackhawk .44. He brought the guns out to the house. He had a couple of boxes of factory Remington 255's. The first time I fired it I was hooked, a paper plate at 40 yards with six holes in it. moderate recoil and muzzle blast. For Me to be able to keep them on target at that time was earth shattering . .
