Strange they aren’t considered firearms.

I hope they are more reliable, when used underwater… :|

That MIGHT make a good home defense weapon if you're hiding behind a door or in a closet with a single intruder. I'd go with a 38spl wad cutter, BACKWARDS! If you're hiding under a bed, .410 slug in the ankle.

Many, many years ago I used to dive off the coast of Palos Verdes Peninsula in SoCal. I just about shiet my wetsuit when I encountered a Tiger shark. And this was not some lost sub adult. My entire armament consisted of rubber band powered spear gun with one spear. And a diving knife with a 6" blade. Fortunately the shark wasn't hungry, and I wasn't stupid enough to pee it off with the spear gun.

Shortly, like the next afternoon after school, I went to the local dive shop and bought, yes Amelia a 15 yo kid could legally buy one, a bang stick. Chambered in 12 gauge. I never saw another Tiger shark, but there are always plenty of great whites, blues and other lesser know species of sharks around. We were generally more concerned about the blues that the whites. But Jaws wasn't made yet so we didn't know that the Great White was the most dangerous thing in the ocean. And apparently neither did the Great Whites.

Being young and really, really stupid I just had to find out if it would work. Yep, right behind the gills of a respectable adult blue resulted in two things. Dead shark, and enough blood and guts in the water to start attracting other toothy critters. This forced a hasty retreat from the water. And for those who care, sharks will eat their own. Living, dead or somewhere in between.

Before any environmentalist freaks out, this was perfectly legal and considered a good thing at the time.
