Clicked on a link for a TR commemorative model 94 --- very cool half mag rifle configuration --- until ----- the pic of the other side of the receiver
Ouch -----
Down here in Oklahoma if anyone wants it -- but sheesh - i thought $900 would be top of the range (but arguably fair) for a commemorative rifle that had not been buggered up

Toss the base and locate three factory screws and you’ve got a nice gun.
Perhaps
im not personally that interested in this one - but have room in the safe for a 26" Canadian Centennial if i ever get a hankering for another 30 WCF , so im not against commemorative jobs at all
but heck - some mods just make me shake my head , but then again - perhaps an 'ol boy just couldnt see the sights and wanted to get some use out of "just another old rifle" . We all remember seeing $175-250 Marlins at every gun shop in the land - just old guns

For 900 bucks buy it and take it hunting. The damage is already done so enjoy it!
yeah - its a fair price in today's market when Henry 30/30's cost more than that new off the shelf
Father's Day had me thinking about my departed dad though , so i will be taking his old Ranger model carbine into the field as often as i can - will probably post about it when i get re-aquainted with it again. The Ranger was the one with the plain birch furniture , but his has a saddle ring and a bullseye sight. If my eyes cant see even those - heck i may be putting an optic on his too - (but its a pre-drilled AE model )
Yeah, no harm done there, just the plug screw for the lever pin hole and the two for the receiver sight. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, someone's already knocked the collector value off for you.
I guess it depends on what you want to use with iron sights, or scopes or whatever. I'm still reluctant to use scopes, and prefer a good set of irons, but there will come a day when that is not possible. -Tutt

I drilled & tapped a '66 Centennial commemorative for a tang peep. Then installed a Lyman # 2 peep and a #17A front sight on it. It is what it is... a good shooter!

Then there's my Canadian Centennial, which wears a Trapper front end and XXX Fancy carbine stock with an early style carbine steel buttplate. It is what is... a good looking good shooter!

In my mind - completely different action to drill for a tang than to drill the side of the receiver -- but as others have corrected my initial assumption - that mount uses existing holes
@Griff, im pretty sure years ago, a pic of one of your customs is what set me down the path for a long barreled centennial of my own - did not enjoy shooting it at the time as i was in serious need of shoulder surgery, - and co-pays being what they are, sold it - but i thought at the time that a tang sight would be perfect on it, -- or as long as it was already , a Malcolm scope mounted forward of the receiver wouldve also been the bees knees
I hate when real life gets in the way of a good time.

I have a beautiful old Model 64 that had four holes drilled in the left side of the receiver. Plug screws and a Lyman receiver sight and it’s a hunting rifle.

Each time I look at the pictures what turns my stomach more than anything is that huge flat area in the stock around the medallion. !
That is really weird!!!! -T-
