Scopes on revolvers

I went shooting yesterday and had trouble with the scope on my single six hunter.
It's a 2.8x8x32 Weaver scope. I can't seem to get the full field of view over 4 power.
Any tricks to fix that?
Also, what scopes are you using?

Usually it is just a matter of the right distance from scope to eyeball...

Have you used the scope on other guns without issues...?
Can you get a full field of view just holding it out at the ideal distance...?

I only have one scoped handgun (Contender in 223) and it is really picky about how far out it is held; I use a bipod when shooting it so it is not hard to adjust the distance, but I can imagine with a 'normal' handgun it could be difficult.

I do like the red-dot type scopes due to that factor, although of course few of those magnify.

Eye relief is usually reduced as magnification increases. You could try loosening the rings and pulling the scope back until you get a full field at 8x. Hopefully your field of view will still be fine at lower magnification. That’s a lot of zoom at arms length

2x to 8x is indeed a lot of magnification for a long eye relief scope. You'll have to play with it to find a sweet spot.
Only scoped short gun I have is a Mk2 with a 10" bbl, only a 2x though.

Is that a handgun scope? Never seen one I can recall that was 8X, doesn't mean they don't exist. Good thing that's a .22, because you're going to have to get your eyeball close for a full field of view...

I have seen 2-8x LER scopes. Not easy to shoot at high magnification.

Yeah there are ‘scout’ (forend-mount) scopes that are 8x and I think some folks do use them on handguns.

The way it is setup I am shooting at arm's length.
I do have room to pull it back some, but I will need to get a hammer spur.
I did go to Weaver's site and they still make it, or at least it's on the site.
Gun shoots pretty good. It was getting 1.25" groups at 50 with 22LR mini mag target 40 gr.
And it was tough keeping it steady on the block of foam the range let me borrow.

Set up was for pig hunting with 22mag, with pretty good adjustment needed to switch to 22 LR

I’ve scoped revolvers , Contenders and bolt action hand rifles . I’m pretty much set on Leupold or Burris scopes . The Leupold 2x is the easiest to use in my opinion . The Leupold 2.5-8x I’ve used some with mixed results the Burris 1.5-4 and 2-7 have worked well for me . Leupold 4x sometimes was a hinderance and the Burris 4-12 I had on an XP-100R was a downright PITA to use over about 5x , worked great from the bench but in a deer hunting situation not so much .

I had a couple friends that built bench rest quality XP-100’s in very light recoil cartridges for shooting groundhogs . One of them used a Leupold 6.5-20x rifle scope on the little hand rifle .
