OT Roadtrip Firearms
So me and the lady are hittin the road to find a new place to live. Nuttin but a pop up camper and a small pickup. Not a whole lotta room when you figure we'll be livin it in for an unknown amount of time.
I can't decide on what firearms to take. I do plan on gettin a few out of state CCW licenses. Try to cover as many states as I can. Then limit my time inside states that aren't covered. Those guns are easy. Just bring the two I carry now. Keltec 380 and a S&W 22-4 45acp.
Also want to bring my 22 Kitgun. Small, light, and good for the lady when we're out an about.
Can't decide on a longgun. I got it down to 2 choices. 870 12ga with a 20in barrel or my Marlin 94 in 44mag.
Don't know if I'm going to do much hunting, But I'd hate to have the chance and not be able to. PLUS a handgun can only do so much.
I could bring both but the weight/space of gun plus ammo might be a hassle.
870- versatile, anything from ducks to bears, heavy but usefull
44- handy, light, easy to shoot. can bring more ammo than 12ga.

In the same boat
Living in the TT out in OK while waiting for the house to sell back home.
This is what I brought out with me
Tarus 85 (carry gun)
Cimmeron SAA clone
SW 18 4" .22
Ruger 77/.22
Marlin 94 .357
Win 94 .30 WCF
Rem 1187 12 ga with choke tubes
I think I can cover most of the bases while I wait for my stuff to show up here.

Wish I knew too! Honestly the plan is... No plan, just move around till we feel comfortable.Hobie wrote:I don't know where you're going but the shotgun is more likely to be legal everywhere you go.
I'm leanin towards the 870 with 2barrels (bird and slug). Then a mix of shotshells (bird, buck and slug).
I can't wait till I have to figure out what fishin gear to bring!
As a further thought....
I do want to bring a good quanity of ammunition along. The less I have to buy now the better.
I have a bolt action mini mauser in 7.62x39. Also have about a case and a half of ammo for it. Would be a fun gun to bring. Not quite a defensive firearm, but serviceable for hunting and FUN.

Thats what I'm fixin to do. I know it's accepted in many states. Didn't their used to be a website that had all the states CCW laws and which state accepted which state's permit? Can't seem to find it.Rusty wrote:The shotgun was the gun that won the west IMHO.
Pauly FWIW Florida will issue a non resident CCW all you have to do is apply.

What part of the country are you focusing on? If western states, I've never heard of any difference in legality between a rifle or shotgun, unless bird hunting (other than grouse). Possesion is no different. Eastern states I have no idea about.
If you are considering western states, the rifle is much more practical, tho I'd prefer one with a little more range, like a 30-30. Guess I'm the odd man out, shotguns just don't even cross my mind when I think of going out in the hills or mountains. I even hunt birds with rifle or pistol (grouse). A pistol seems more flexible and practical than a shotgun. Just me I guess.

I don't hunt birds anymore, so your Marlin gets my vote. Food or pests, 2 legs or 4, it will do more for me.

Pretty much made up my mind on the 870. It's going. Now I'm havin second thoughts about the handguns. 22 is still goin. but I'm thinkin of just bringing my shorty glock and seein if I can find someone to trade for a SAA
Still thinkin about bringin the glock leavin the backup gun home and bringin my blackhawk in 45colt. All depends on what shoots better. I haven't shot the Blackhawk in quite awhile Gotta do a side by side range day.
I know I'm overthinking the whole thing. But I just can't not overthink this.
