Was it the Captain or Mr Rodgers ( or both ) that was decorated in one of the wars?

Yup my joints hurt in the morning and at noon and getting into bed! Copper compression knee sleeves are great !!

There are urban legends about Bob Keeshan but he actually enlisted too late to see any WWII combat. Fred Rogers did not serve, God rest his soul.

I remember watching Captain Kangaroo growing up in the 60's and yes mt joints hurt.

There was also, Engineer Bill (Red light, green light), and Sheriff John ( Put another candle on my birthday cake). They may have been regional shows. Little sister used to watch Romper Room.
