Anyone else wish they had bought a dozen 336's when they were $200 at Wallyworld?
Started looking around to see whats available for a project where I plan to commit sacrilege on a 30-30 with a suppressor, taclight, red dot etc etc and looks like best I can do is a Rossi for around $800. I remember many times thinking I should grab one of those Wallyworld Marlins just to have a couple laying around. Now I wish I'd bought a truckload of them. Oh well. Anyone got one of these new Rossi's? Is Ruger planning to drop a 336?

When I look back on how many nice used 336's I bought for $100-$150, and how many Model 39's I bought for the same money! If I'd have just kept them all and sold them today it would make a nice bonus to retirement! I don't even see them at our monthly gun shows anymore, and I used to see multiples of both 20 yrs. ago!

Quite often I wish I'd bought two. A 336 with 24" Barrel & Half Mag, and one in 35 Remington, It being in same configuration!

No... I'm quite content with my sole Marlin, a 375.

Yeah! And a dozen pickups. And a dozen houses, etc. In fact, it's likely that if I just had kept what I sold, and sold what I kept, I'd be wondering if I should have instead kept . . . Aaargh.

Nope, not floundering around... I have Winchester 94s to fill the roles I wish for them.
Edited to add: I err'd... I forgot I have a 1894 Marlin converted to a Short Barrelled "Cowboy" in 45 Colt, modified to cycle the C45S.

I would not mind having more, but I do not shop at wally world....ever!

Even having a truckload of Marlins you wouldn’t make much with inflation figured in…..I remember when single action Colts were $225 in the early seventies and are $2000 more now….if you can find one…

I wished I had gotten the 30-30 cowboy when it came out, I thought that was one nice looking rifle!....but, I had a perfectly good 336, didn't really need it.....so let it go by....

I bought one at K-Mart in '79 for $89.00. those were the days.

Only have one 336 and was my Dad's in 35 Rem . We could talk about inflation prices for days but want change anything.
Like sixgun said a new Colt SAA was $194 MSRP in 1971
Dad built a brand new house same year ranch house on full basement for $20,000 . He worked for a state college as electrician /lineman making $7,000 per year.
Mom sold that house in 2012 for $175,000

About the Rossi, my wife bought one of the shorter barreled ones. It's nice, functions and shoot well, the loading gate is ok for her, it's not too stiff, the trigger is good in my opinion and the rifle has no obvious issues with fitting.
As a comparison, she also has a Henry, which is tube fed with no loading gate and it's a nice rifle, but I would take the Rossi over it----mainly because the Rossi is not as bulky.
So, about missed opportunities, the last time I went to Tempe, about three years ago, I just missed a nice old Marlin waffletop in 30-30 at a pawn shop, it went out the door for $125. I was looking at it on the rack behind the counter, when the guy in front of me ask to see it, and he bought it.

Thanks Jim, looks like they're pretty hard to find at this point, and the one I did find was just under $1700, wow. Looks like Henry and Rossi are more in my budget for something I'm going to molest with tactical options. That Ruger looks really nice though. Too bad Mossberg discontinued that ugly M4 stocked abomination, its about perfect for the crime against levers I'm about to commit.JimT wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 10:53 pmThey did a while back ...

I think I've decided on a Henry X, its a good start on what I want to do, but I appreciate it.

There's alot of things I wish I could go back on time and buy dozens of. Honda three wheelers (you should see what people are paying for them nowadays compared to the 1990s when people could hardly give them away), used lever rifles, especially Marlins which seems to have increased in market prices the most over the last couple years, square body Chevy trucks ...I could go on for days
Re: Anyone else wish they had bought a dozen 336's when they were $200 at Wallyworld?
Same here with my old Ballard rifled 35 Texan. I don't even like Marlins, but that one checks all the boxes.
