Colt SAA Price in 1971

Post by Pat C »

Does anyone remember the average price paid for a new 2nd gen SAA in 1971 ? I know retail was $190. Colt worked off a 18-36% wholesale price depending on how many were purchased .

Currently the average price paid is far more than inflation rate due to supply / demand.

I am not sure what a new one cost. I bought a fairly new used one in 1969 for $150.00. 5 1/2" factory nickle with factory walnut stocks.

$150 in 1969 equals $1,254.07 in 2023 from the inet, and who can trust that since inflation as reckoned by the traitor deep state is seriously under represented . . .

Per CPI Inflation Calculator: $190 in 1971 = 1,434.11 today.

Back when they were still I'm production they were defiantly cheaper. Once the custom shop took over the prices have slowly crept up beyond actual worth.

I ordered one new in 1994 from Acusport through a gunshop
$950 for blued and color cased . Unfortunately I traded it . Had two used ones ,sold/traded those as well some twenty years ago.

Like to have another but having a hard time coughing up $2300-$2500 for a new made Colt .

Sad thing Colt's retail is $1799 and any dealers lucky enough to snag one are charging $700-$2000 over retail and getting it.

I've never paid retail for any new firearm and don't intend to start.

I bought a new one in 1972, 4-¾" & paid $225, including tax. It was the only one the dealer had, and I'm sure he saw my USN dungarees and fleeced me. But it was still cheaper than at the big gun store downtown! I'm sure the difference was their pre-printed price tags on everything vs. his hand printed ones! Well, I guess their much larger inventory was somewhat to blame also.
