I follow (subscribed) a metal detectorist in Vermont, he carries all the time up in the Green mountains but has to leave his pistol behind when visiting NYC, seems to be more likely he would need it more in New York than Vermont where only Black Bears could be a problem...

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
That's one lucky dude. Figured he'd never see the light of day again.
You're right GK. It seems it's the places you need it the most that prohibit you. Coincidence I'm sure.
That's why I HATE to leave the state. Hate it.
Kristy and I took the day and went down to Augusta yesterday. Went to Lowes, then to lunch, then to Sam's. I took my usual summer carry. A Glock 19 in an appendix holster under an untucked button down short sleeve shirt.
I've had a carry permit since 1985, but we haven't needed them for the last several years. Everyone carries here.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
I often think about what I would carry if I lived in a country with a bit more freedom, probably be something a little bit older in design and most likely a revolver.
Back in the day I shot a few semi auto pistols but always preferred revolvers and anyway being a tightwad with ammunition I would hate to use more than five or six rounds on bad guys....

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Yea dudes, I told him that he should contact Fox News and make a story out of it but don’t like attention….once every couple of months the news comes down to his place and he sends his top manager to deal with it.
A guy is walking down the beach and stumbles onto something and it’s a genie in a bottle…….the genie comes out and grants him one wish……..so he tells the genie that when he takes a leak he wants it to be the best Irish whiskey known to mankind and poof, she tells him it’s done………..so he finds a glass with ice in it and pee’s in the glass and unsure , he slowly takes a taste and sure enough, it’s the best whiskey he ever tasted.
So he goes home and tells his wife, “you won’t believe what happened today”, so he tells her the story and she don’t believe it so he tells her to get a glass and he will prove it to her and sure enough, she tastes the smoothest Irish whiskey she ever tasted.
The next day the man comes home from work and his wife tells him she had an exhausting day and she hands him a glass to pee in and says she needs a drink. He tells her, “nope, today your gonna drink it straight out of the bottle.”

Hey Six,
Does the machine at the airport pick it up? I have a 1/2” x 1” chunk of metal from a splitting wedge deep in my leg and it always sets off the airport detectors. A 12” penile reduction implant does the same thing.
About 3 weeks ago I noticed this little tiny, miniature, extremely small “weed” coming out of the ground……..well, something told me it wasn’t a weed so I let it grow….mom says it’s an elephant ears plant after it was a week or so old……she was determined that’s what it was…..so a few week later a yellow looking flower is starting to form……..wonder what it is……….it’s right about in da middle of dee pic.——Six #2.

My son's 36th birthday today, boy where has the time gone? He is married and in NZ and it only seems like yesterday I was teaching him to shoot
It's the Glorious Twelfth tomorrow and the anti hunting loonies will be out in force up on the moors
I saw on the news today a vegan mother refused to have her child treated for head lice because she didn't want the lice killed.....

Happy Birthday to your son!
Our oldest has a Birthday this month. He will be 34. Like you said, it doesn't seem possible.
If I was the kid, I'd make SURE the mother got lice too.
Morons.

They'd definitely stand out in Cornville. Way too many teeth.
Surprised you haven't relocated. New Zealand is a beautiful country. Of course, their gun laws ain't so pretty.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Wouldn't that be GREAT if I was lucky enough to pull one of those Cornville table destroyer gals we could really test how well made the bunks are at the camp...
I can't believe how difficult I'm finding it to locate a decent 16 gauge over here, I'm hoping to find one close enough to inspect before I buy because I'm looking for an older one with hammers and don't want to end up with a wall hanger.... I hope that this time next year I will be living somewhere with hunting on the doorstep like I'm used to.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
I'm quite surprised. I figured high quality, classy doubles grew on trees and bushes over there. And in my mind (dreams), they are all 16s. Every one.
Well buddy, here is to hoping every bit of that comes true.
I'll even have Kristy invoke some of her "Juju" powers. I'm not sure what that is, but it seems to be quite powerful.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Yes theres plenty of high quality doubles to be found but my budget will not stretch that far, anyway I don't want something so expensive I have to wrap it in cotton wool if you know what I mean. At the moment side by sides are out of favour and hard to get rid of except for hammer guns and 16 gauges
side by side 12 gauges are 10 a penny in the UK as everyone wants over unders with single triggers, something to do with the American influence so they say

Jay I always knew you were a man with standards, especially with the handle "OldWin" you couldn't be anything less..
I don't mind over and under guns but much prefer traditional side by sides for hunting, as for single triggers ....... Barf Is my reaction too
After posting yesterday's post I went on Guntrader and a new (used) hammer gun had appeared locally and at a give way price BUT in 12 gauge....

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Yes the 16 gauge has been a favourite shotgun for a long long time.
When I worked at Westley Richards I was going out with a girl who turned out to be a natural good shot and when a nice old English 16 gauge hammer gun was up for sale in the showroom I bought it for her, a few weeks later together with a friend of mine the three of us were shooting Wood Pigeons and boy she out shot us with that 16 gauge and made me and my pal look like beginners...
We swapped guns for a while and my score was so much improved I stopped thinking the 12 gauge was such a big deal anymore, of course choke may have had something to do with it my friend and I were using heavily choked 12s and the 16 was cyl cyl.....

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Haha yeah that may have something to do with it.
I have an older 16 box lock that is choked too tight for my abilities. It's a 26", my favorite for upland birds. I've been meaning to take it down to New England Arms and have the chokes opened a bit. I think it would be perfect.
Of course, Ive had it since 1986.

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
I have had a lot more good hunting with open chokes, when I was carrying a double shotgun everyday for work I liked the left to be full choke as it was loaded with large shot for foxes (or as we call them Charlie) and the right imp cyl for 7s for flying vermin or little critters like stoats. I also found that poachers didn't like looking down the muzzle of a shotgun either, luckily I never had to fire in anger, correction: I did once fire a 9 mm flobert rimfire over the heads of a gang of vandals who thought it funny to destroy my Dad's garden boy did they run.... I was about 16 at the time....

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Imp/mod would be my preferred chokes too, I once had a 12 that was cyl/imp and I even used it quite successfully on ducks but I always think I need a bit more choke for the occasional long shot, probably not but once you start thinking about choke and shot size etc your shooting suffers, sometimes ignorance is bliss..
Last night I watched three episodes of Rawhide......it had me looking for my cap pistol then I remembered I don't have one anymore.... happy memories of times long ago..

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
Yeah. Many up here run cyl / imp for birds cause it's thick. I still like imp / mod cause I road hunt for birds with the Jeep quite a bit.
Now, dont think for a moment that I know anything about shotguns or shotgun shooting. I assure you, I'm a horrid shotgunner.
I did, however, get out and shoot that 1886 Winchester yesterday. What a fantastic rifle! It shot great, and i managed a nice cloverleaf at 50 yards with it. Not bad seeing as how I haven't shot all summer and I'm not good with open sights.
I have a wonderful case of crescent butt black shoulder this morning.

Good for you ..... those blue shoulder marks are a badge of honour for spending time enjoying your freedom
I'm getting desperate for something to shoot and keep thinking about that cheap Russian single 16 down the road a spell but not much chance of any hunting around here anyway so I'll hold out a bit longer.
Until I get back into making smoke I'll let these guys do it for me..

Re: Chairmen of the Politically Incorrect
You know, I don't think I've ever seen an episode of Rawhide. Don't know why.
Just got back from camp. I got 4 sections of ladder stand ladders from a guy at work. My idea is that 1 section is just right to use to get in the top bunk. It pins to the bunk so it isn't permanent. Because the bunks fold down into sofas. When you take the 2 sections and pin them together, they become a ladder to get into the loft storage, onto the woodshed, or get to the camp roof.
I just love simple, multi use, efficient ideas.
I also got some plastic tubs that go under the bunks. Good sealed up storage and out of the way.
We also ran around to my dad's buddy's camp and got a 100lb propane cylinder. He told us we could have another one, as he has several behind his woodshed. The first one we got, and this one, were half full. Free gas for the rest of the year easy!
While there, I checked the cooler (he has about 25ft of porch lined with the old Coke coolers. I slid the door open... YES! Chock full of beer.
Dad and I grabbed one for the 5 mile Jeep trail out. We got about a hundred yards from camp and our buddy was coming in. I hollered to him that we got the tank and stole some beer! He laughed and said it's was impossible for us to steal from him. Good guy. The best.

Jay the whole Camp project was fascinating from start to finish you certainly did put a lot into it and now you and your Dad can enjoy hunting in comfort.
You didn't miss much not watching Rawhide, I loved it as a kid but it seems so lame now...
"Combo's" over here that just means motorcycle and sidecar....
Once apon a time I had a Marlin Mountie and a double action.22 revolver but never photographed them together so I can't play
If I can find a .32 rimfire rifle I have these two that I can pair it up with...

You didn't miss much not watching Rawhide, I loved it as a kid but it seems so lame now...

Combos? Aren't those a cheese filled pretzel snack cracker?
I don't have many combo guns, believe it or not. Just kind of worked out that way. Only ones are 44 magnum, mostly. I do have one 357 rifle, but it's a Rossi, so that probably don't count.
For whatever reason, I've never had a handgun chambered in 38-40 or 44-40. And I've never had a rifle in 45. Oh well...
Hey GK! I do have a 1915 Steven's Favorite in .32RF. You can count mine as your combo.

"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

Hey OS!
I just noticed, we got those same dishes! Yes, we DO eat off plates here. In Cornville they use cedar shingles for plates.

If you want to eat off cedar shingles here you have to go to a really high end restaurant.
