Posting pics?

Post by bcraig »

I have read the stickies and still cannot figure it out

I used to have no problems Posting pics as I am using imgur but several Months ago I got a new iphone and find I cannot use it as usual anymore, I dont use icloud and dont want to, just use my phone for my photos .

I have my phone plugged in to my laptop but it either will not allow me to do it or I cant figure the process out.

Whenever I look for photos on my laptop it shows that I have 6 photos taken today of a rifle but when I try to open them it says
HEIC which I think is cloud based and I dont want to use the cloud and have it turned off on my phone.

How can I view the actual photos without using the cloud when I have the iphone (which has my photos I want to send) connected to my hp laptop to then send to imgur so I can post to here ?

I am not very computer literate and have been trying to figure this mess out for 7 hours !

Thanks

Not sure if this helps or hinders you

I dont use apple any longer. Since going to android 12 years ago I've not had any problems with posting pics.

If you can figure out how to uncompress the pics ...

.
I know the "cloud" is an issue for me.

I do NOT like having no control over where my photos are or go. I get it if one actually 'posts' (even on Leverguns here) that then they may wind up copied and used or misused eventually, but when I got a new iPad for work, all of a sudden ALL my firearms photos (not just ones I've posted) from my iPhone appeared on that iPad, due to the 'cloud'. On top of that, all my photos appeared on my wife's phone and vice versa. Good thing we don't have any secret girl/boyfriends...

I think that I just got it figured out
i went to my photos onmy phone and touchd the for you icon and then it said featuredcontent is turned offwith a highlighted GO TO SETTINGS and I clicked on that and scrolled to the bottom of the page and where I had KEEP ORIGINALS checked I unchecked it and then Checked Automatic and Finally It worked ,at least I think it did ,I am going to try and make a post with a couple of pics and find out.

And after only 14 hours of trial and error.

I am not very computer literate but I am Tenacious !!

Thanks

only sorta off topic this time....

2 things. if you use Signal on your phone and put it on your compluter, you can send text and photos to yourself. from there you can drag them to your open posting window... this works with iphones too. plus Signal has a wifi phone and video capability that makes calls to Ukraine both encrypted and better quality than ma-bell.

if you get a usb hub that matches your power plug adapter, and has an ethernet connection, you can use your phone on your LAN over wires. [iow use an ethernet cable to connect the phone to a computer] no wi-fi and way faster if you are copying or moving your images. you become your own cloud, like, uCloud, or maybe MiCloud, etc. I plug the mouse dongle into the hub and Presto! mouse on phone . . and wired or blututh keyboard.... it's like suddenly the phone is a civilized and tiny computer, instead of a tracker and robber. [kwim?] works with android phone plus win and ios over wifi but don't know about cabling an apple phone to computer.

and D. if you are using whatsapp, there is evidence that whatsapp has a Back Door in the app, because the feds decrypted Little Joe's laptop that was all encrypted with whatsapp. these days it's easy enuf to get actually secure and random passwords off of Steve Gibson's website at grc.com [SORRY] I fixed the link.

for example, this is a photo of a utube video i took with an android phone, sent to desktop via signal, and dragged to this form >

.
hope this helps someone somewhere
