Every once in a while I must remind myself that 22s are pure enjoyment.
I had a couple things to do at the club today so I decided to drag a couple 22s along.
My customized 77/22 & 10/22, my modified Mk2 and a S&W auto( can't remember the model... not a 41 or a 422)
Anyhow I set a target at 50 to check both long guns were on, then the Mk2 at 50 ( has a 2x scope) was on at 50. So I proceeded to ringing steel at 100. After I figured the hold it was child's play to hit the 12" gong. Fine tune the hold and the 8 incher rang every time. A bit more fine tuning and the 4 inch rang as well.
Then I tried the S&W, wears a red dot and by gum it was 7" high and a foot right at 50! What ammo did I have this sighted in with!?
Made the necessary adjustments and got it hitting correctly and then stretched the 4" barrel out to the plates. No magnification and a tiny red dot made the hold a bit more difficult but that satisfying DING was rewarding!
Best of all, no brass to chase!

I shoot more .22lr than anything else. When the boys were younger, keeping up with the supply end was crazy but both have turned out to be excellent shooters. The oldest can shoot circles around his "little" brother that's a foot taller than he is, but he has the patience and squeeze the trigger and follow the shot. We have a couple of 10/22, but I like the Savage bolt actions, especially the older ones.
We thinking I'd try to get each one of them out to the range this summer. We'll see how that goes.

While I am at my daughter's place in Oklahoma I have been shooting my Single Six a lot. Had to go buy more ammo the other day because I seriously misjudged how many I would shoot while I am here!

I miss shooting the .22's. Most of my limited range time now is practice with the church's safety team. I do shoot a few rounds of .22 in the basement, but need to be careful. When I first started collecting, planning ahead for kids and grandkids, I tried to get every action available, thinking of both fun and as trainers. Y2K has shot every type, so the plan worked. When he was in his late tweens/early teens, and I was convinced he'd be safe and not do anything stupid, we'd bring a bunch to his grandfather's (my FIL's) house each visit. He had plenty of land to shoot on. I'd hand Y2K a brick of .22's and he'd head out with his cousin. Amazing how fast the two of them could go through 500 rounds!!!

Hey Gunny, I know you went to gunsmithing school in Trinidad. Did you ever use that formal education to carry on 'smithing at a retail level?

Walt, Yes and no.
I turned down a few jobs, one of which was at Griffin and Howe as a stock maker. The pay was LOW, the hours were LONG and stuck in a dark dingy basement!

I do smith out of the house but I don't do much anymore as I just don't have time.

If I had a lathe and a mill I'd probably do more!
