Went to a small show this morning.

Several shows in the area this weekend, but went to a smaller one that I usually find something interesting. Except today. I think some of the regulars may have decided to set up at one of the larger shows.

Stopped by my favorite shop on the way home. Still looking for can of 2400. Still have about a half a pound, should be fine for now. Only use it for the .357s. A few of you guys shared some excellent loads for the .357 & 2400.

Wandered over to the gun counter and in the used rack I was surprised to see some blue steel and walnut with a lever sticking out.
Flagged down one of the guys and he hands me a Marlin (Remington vintage) 1895 with a $545 price tag!
Needles to say, it came home with me.
Looks to be one of the later Remington made with the far better fit and finish. Only a couple of light scrapes on the stock, but otherwise looks almost new.
Got home and cleaned it up a bit. Ran a handful of .405 WNLFN hand loads through the action and it cycled perfectly.
Looking forward to some range time with this one.

Jason , Good Score. I bought it's twin new in '09 . I have a Williams Foolproof on it. for Shooters who know how to feed them they are an excellent hunting gun. not strong like an '86 but not needed in Ohio. You got a Great deal!! enjoy. .

I have an LTD III, not sure when they were made, that I've had for quite a while now. It's deadly with those .405 Cast Performance WFNGCs over a pretty good charge of Varget. I've had five shot groups touching at 100 yds with that rifle. Hope this one will shoot as well, though all of my .45-70s are good shooters. Still need to get back out with the custom '85. The .45-70 has always been my favorite rifle cartridge. Started shooting my dad's Trapdoors as soon as I was big enough to hold one up.
The LTD is the only Marlin I have that I shoot with the original sights, the big buckhorn just looks right. I either put a Lyman peep or scout mount. I'll get some rounds through this one first and see how it shoots as it. Though, I'm not a big fan of those Marlin folding rear sights.

Thanks for the nice words, guys! Ya just can't have enough .45-70s!

The decimal point in front made me think his 1895 was rebarreled to .405 Win. instead of a 405 gr. bullet.

Several years ago I ordered a post-JM model 1894CB Marlin in .44 mag and upon examining it found that there was a patch of heavy tooling chatter marks about 5" from the chamber. Without shooting it I boxed it up and returned it to Marlin. I got it back a week and a half later and Marlin had replaced the barrel. The fit and finish were good, the action was smooth and the trigger and loading gate were acceptable, it turned out to be a good shooter and one of my favorite m94s.

I have a Marlin 94 CST in .357 Magnum. I bought it not long before Remington had it's financial issues. That 94 is very smooth, well put together and a super shooter. It will feed anything I put through it, even .38 Special wad cutters! I'm hoping that Ruger gets around to the Model 94s before too much longer.

I have a friend who called to tell me he'd bought a 1895 Cowboy in .40-65! I asked the same question of him then, and was told it had a new barrel installed and chambered to .40-65, so I figured there's probably a few out there rebarreled to cartridges guys prefer.

Jason, I have another one in .45 Colt with a 24" barrel which is just a very fine gun. I love octagonal barrels; I want to find one in .357 with a short barrel because I seem to shoot the shorties better. I have Skinner peeps on all my lever guns except the Winchesters which have Williams peep sights.
