Skilled engraver

Post by Pat C »

Does anyone know a trusted engraver that can freshen tang markings on an 1894 Winchester. I have contacted just about every known person and they either don't answer phones/emails or not interested in job .

I was given an original 1894 deluxe rifle project ,sadly the rifle was heavily neglected resulting in ruined barrel and fine pitting on receiver.

The former owner inherited the project and didn't feel he had the desire or time to do it so he passed it on to me.It came to me already most pitting gone but light pits remain around tang markings

Needs final polish but markings need to be done now so they are not lost.

I've taken ink pulls of the markings and have at least a half dozen excellent samples from this serial range to go off of.

The original markings are vary in depth and clarity because of the hand cut roll die.

The restoration can be done two ways

A patina finish using rust blue and brown ,leaving as found.

Full restoration ,including charcoal bluing ,rust blue, nitre blue, etc.
