.45 ACP cylinder fitted!
A while back Scott (I think) posted about short-barreled, large caliber handguns. Through the post someone mentioned the .45 ACP cylinder for a .45 Colt. I looked to order one for my Uberti Cattleman "Sabre", and did so (through Taylor's). It took about 7 months before it was available again, and then took me a few months to drop it off at the gunsmith to have it fitted (it was not a drop-in). He got the work done in a few days, for only a couple Jacksons. Here she is:
The picture is a bit funny, because the finish is darn near perfect, though it doesn't look like it in the photo. The cylinder outside the gun is the original one in .45 Colt.
Now, I can reload .45 Colt any day of the week. I have a ton of brass, bullets, and powder. What I don't have a ton of (by my standards) is primers. So, I figured getting a cylinder in .45 ACP means I can buy factory ammo, at darn near half the price of factory .45 Colt.
That's my plan anyway!

Cool!
I shoot my Bisley convertible .45 more than any of my other Rugers with the exception of the Bowen SBH. It shoots far more accurately with the .45 Colt cylinder, but it's a lot of fun shooting .45 ACPs.
Have fun!

Looks good Kid!....yea, it's usually just a touch of the file to make em drop in...I've done a mess of em.
Ya figure, most loads that we shoot are in the 750-900 fps range so it makes sense to use a.c.p. brass.....you can even use some big ole 250 gr. semi wadcutters in there as I do with a 1955 Target Smith.---006
Hint....get a taper crimp die.....

Think you'll find the 45 ACP cyl useful and enjoyable. My 3 1/2" round butt Freedom Arms M97 doesn't see the 45 Colt cyl much at all any more.

Can't speak to the Uberti, but the Ruger ACP cylinders go with 45 Cowboy Special brass like peas and carrots - and you can roll crimp numbers like the Keith Auto Rim bullet.
Re: .45 ACP cylinder fitted!
My shooting partner has one of those Ruger .45 Colt Bisleys in a 3 1/2" barrel. Good shooter....sweet gun. Calls it "Stubby".

Re: .45 ACP cylinder fitted!
Thanks for answering my unspoken question. That's a combo I'd like to play with someday. Although the ACP ammo in a 1911 magazine makes for a dandy "quick load" for the single action. I doubt it'd work with the 45 Cowboy cartridges though.

Re: .45 ACP cylinder fitted!
Yeah, it's an ACP length case with a Colt rim so 1911 mags are a no go. Somewhere (might've been here), someone once mentioned using SMLE strippers to carry Colt rounds, I've been keeping an eye out for some as they could possibly be a "Cowboy Special" speedloader.
