Excellent job! Good news! Maybe we'll just call you Lt. Gunny until the first of the year. How's that? You've got a few more years to pick up that extra stripe, you'll get it done.

10? 10!?!? What Corps were you part of?Dirty Dan wrote:OUT F@#%$#^&ING STANDING! NOW GET DOWN AND GIVE ME 10. Congrats, Gunny, from a former CPL. Reeeecover!Semper Fi

My Army DS was an Ex Marine DI (became an Army DS because the Corps wouldn't allow him to continue as a DI... he was too promotable...)
He never gave us "Ain't Ready for Marines Yet" types less than 40.

(He was harder on me because (A) I had also trained at Mare Island and (B) had the poor sense drive to AIT and to park my POV in the (unmarked) Senior Drill's parking spot...)

Congratulations. Even though I'm Canadian, THANK YOU!! I make it a habit of shaking the hand of any military person I meet and say thank you. I don't think they hear it near enough.

The reason the USMC uses three up and three down is that they can't count any higher than three.awp101 wrote:Airman, what does three up and three down mean to you?!?Hobie wrote:
I dunno...end of an inning?

The USAF uses five down and three up because we could at least count to eight

The reason the Air Fore uses "five down" is because they are 5th in the line of seniority in the Armed Forces.jeepnik wrote:The reason the USMC uses three up and three down is that they can't count any higher than three.awp101 wrote:Airman, what does three up and three down mean to you?!?Hobie wrote:

I was refering to the comment "airman, what does three up and three down mean to you?"
Perhaps I should have removed the image so as not to confuse you. Is this better? And I'm real happy you can count to four.

If it makes you feel better I had to take my shoes off to count that high

Re: OT: Good news for me
Just for accuracy's sake regarding the ordering above, the Navy is actually about a month older than the Marine Corps.Modoc ED wrote:The reason the Air Fore uses "five down" is because they are 5th in the line of seniority in the Armed Forces.

Re: OT: Good news for me
It doesn't matter. The U. S. Marine Corps is actually senior to the U. S. Navy. Now that's a curious matter because the U. S. Marine Corps actually falls under the U. S. Navy in the U. S. Department of the Navy.RSY wrote:Just for accuracy's sake regarding the ordering above, the Navy is actually about a month older than the Marine Corps.Modoc ED wrote:The reason the Air Fore uses "five down" is because they are 5th in the line of seniority in the Armed Forces.

I'll tell ya -- once you get to looking into and lifting the covers of the different services and their backgrounds/traditons some really strange things come to light. BUT it's all good because no matter what the facts/traditions, ALL the services pull together to get the mission done.
Re: OT: Good news for me
Congrats Gunny, and Semper Fi!
They give you another rocker, then transfer you to corn country for it . . .
Just like when my Recruit Series Commander heard that I qualified highest with a 247, I found myself standing At Ease in front of the Captain's desk with the Captain saying, "The Corps has plenty of Wheeled Vehicle Mechanics, recruit. Any Marine can change a tire or a water pump. What the Corps needs are good armorers and riflery instructors, born riflemen that know how to shoot. What do you think about that?"
"Sir, this recruit will do as the Corps sees fit, Sir."
After my leave following boot it was off to APG and 2111 school.
Best of luck, Gunny!

Might as well face it, you're addicted to guns . . .
Re: OT: Good news for me
A very good friend is a former Marine served in Viet Nam. He's real handicapped when it comes to counting. He takes off his shoes, and he can still only go up to 17. But, I taught him to start over after he wrote down 17 so now he works on a base 17 numerical system.JReed wrote:If it makes you feel better I had to take my shoes off to count that highjeepnik wrote:I was refering to the comment "airman, what does three up and three down mean to you?"JReed wrote: That just proves you airheads aint as bright as you think you are look again thats 3 up and 4 down
