I found out this afternoon that I got selected for Gunnery Sergeant (E7 for you non Marine types) . It wont take in to effect until around January or so but I am happy none the less. Just thought I would share.

That's outstanding Gunny!!!! I know exactly what that means to you. Along with that promotion comes a lot more respect and responsibility. From now on you'll enjoy the meaning of the old phrases -- "Ask the Gunny"; "The Gunny will know what to do". I gotta say that you and your other cohorts make me proud.

Do the Marines let you wear the rank without pay until your promotion date when you will start drawing your pay?
That is outstanding: congratulations! R. Lee would be proud...

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you somethin'. That ain't an optical illusion, it only LOOKS LIKE an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me . . . .
Keep an eye on your coffee cup. We always had something special for the new Gunny.
I have been one of those for a while now

Thanks
Unfortunatly this doesnt get me out of recruiting duty . Gunny just means when you say something is BS more people have to listen to you

The Corps doesnt Frock Gunnys just 1st Sgt's and Sgt's Maj. so I will have to wait a while for it.

(or "GUNNIE", as the case may be)
Maybe in a 5 or 6 months when I pin on I'll put in for a handle change. But till then I am just a Staff Sergeant.
Thanks to all of you for the kind words

Congrats. Back in the day, they called it having a "line" number. Only down side was that as soon as you got one, they heaped work on you before you were getting paid for it. And it was all of the duties that none of the other NCO's of your future rank wanted. But, in the long run, it was worth it.

No we dont Frock the nice thing is that I will have 8 years to pick up Master Sgt before I hit 20 years. I dont know about a movie sound but it sure sounds good to me.

That's great. My problem was that I couldn't hold E-8 long enough to retire at that grade before I was going to be forced out. Ah the joys of serving with/in NG units... I know that someday, if you want to, you'll be...
