Could use a few Prayers
I've been scarce around here for a while as life has been busy. It's about to slow down drastically. I'm having some reconstruction work done on my shoulder this week, and honestly, it's kind of freaking me out. I don't like being put out, and I'm worried about the end result and my ability to be able to continue in my line of work and provide for my family. If you have a minute to lift up a few words to our creator, I'd appreciate it.

Re: Could use a few Prayers
I had torn my biceps tendon off at the shoulder and completely split my labrum about 10 years ago (in my 50's).
This was my first time being under since I had my tonsils out as a kid, so I know you're apprehension. It's over and done with quickly, then you have several months of recovery. It was a 2 hour orthoscopic surgery.
Follow the post surgical instructions EXACTLY as you are told by the surgeon and your PT.....EXACTLY. I was back to about 100% strength and flexibility after six months and that shoulder is now stronger than my other. I did EXACTLY as I was told. The PT is your recovery specialist. This is routine for them and they know how to get you back to 100% if you follow their instructions.
The ice water recirculator will be a huge help with pain and swelling and don't be afraid of taking your pain meds for the first few days. You will probably need them. You won't become an addict, just constipated.
You'll be fine. Stay positive.

Ted, you bet you have mine, too. Prayers both for perfect procedure and healing ahead of schedule, but also to ease your valid worries.
Jdad is right about following post-op and p.t. orders to the letter. And don't try to be a hero about quitting the pain meds in the first 72 hours. Been there, done that.

Did you have a Biceps Tenodesis done then?jdad wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 12:30 pm I had torn my biceps tendon off at the shoulder and completely split my labrum about 10 years ago (in my 50's).

I don't remember the exact term, but looking it up it sounds like what I had done.TedH wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 5:57 pmDid you have a Biceps Tenodesis done then?jdad wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 12:30 pm I had torn my biceps tendon off at the shoulder and completely split my labrum about 10 years ago (in my 50's).

The surgeon screwed some anchors in and tied the tendon back down into place. He did the same thing with the labrum tear.
The only permanent workout restriction was that I was never to do a parallel bar dip again.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

.
The surgery is usually the easy part; you don't have to do anything, because the surgeon does all the work, and it's pretty routine for them..
The therapy is the hard part; you have to do all the work. The good news is that an Occupational Therapist will guide you, and that is also something pretty routine for them..
Do the therapy like it's homework for your favorite subject.
