Range Time With The Rossi

Post by JimT »

I took the Rossi Model 92 levergun along to the Range this morning. Had a few loads I wanted to check out, the Speer 125 gr. JHP being uppermost. These were loaded with 22 gr. H110 for around 2200 fps.

I like the 125 gr. load for open-sight distances. Power level is on the low edge of .30-30 performance.

Thank you Nath. These loads work well with my sixgun also and I like having the same loads in the sixgun and the levergun.

That should fill most needs under 150 yards.

Yessir ... and these days on deer-size game with iron sights I limit myself to less than that.

EVERYTHING is requiring more dollars. One of these days they will do what they do in the Developing World. They delete a couple zero's off the currency and start over. At least until it goes out of control and people quit using it. Like in Zimbabawe.

A 158 gr. jsp or jhp at 2000 fps from a .357-44 b&d, .357 herrett, or .35 rem. t/c pocket rifle into the armpit of a whitetail simply snatches the soul out of it. I would expect the 125 gr. at that speed to do the same or even better.....

These are running over 2300 fps.
I loaded the 125 gr. Gold Dot with 1/2 grain less than these. Chrono results: 125 gr. Gold Dot JHP 21.5 gr. H110 = 2317 fps

When I read your load data, I thought, 'wow them are some very snappy loads!' After looking up rifle data, my only thought is to keep them away from my Colt. I've never played with the 38/357 beyond cowboy action loads & our duty .38+P stuff. So ,any th/ings to try, so little time!

What's crazy is that load does 1339 fps from a 1.75" barrel!
It gains about a thousand fps in the carbine.
