C.B.G. s revisited.....

That is cigar box strum-strums.....

Someone gave a friend a simple, basic kit from c.b.gitty.....
https://www.cbgitty.com/cigar-box-guita ... amp-kits-/
This one was fretless, meant to be tuned open and played with a slide. He could not get it to play so he gave it to me.

The nut was just a 3/8" all thread. I put a thinner screw in its place to lower the strings. I tried to glue low e-string cut pieces in the fret grooves for frets but they would not lie flat. So I glued some 5d sinkers (nails). The red, white and blue paint is a salute to the heehaw era buck owens. The tuning is g-b-e for a pseudo-quasi open e minor tuning. Very crude & primitive !

Very nice, Ray. I built one of these a while back, fretless, but didn't know a thing about tuning key or proper string selection. Gave it away.

This one pictured in the video has a pick-up and is being played through a 5w toy amp with a bit of overdrive. The lyrics are from the old hymn "living for JESUS".

I saw a YouTube video the other day with a guitar made from a 30-caliber ammo can...!

mister p, I have spent hundreds of hours trying to learn to play the slide. misters baker and johnson and puckett and speal make it look so easy on the "ootoob" and intimate that open tuned 3 strings are ideal for beginners. Not for me. I tune them g - b - e like the high strings on a guitar and strum and cross-pick. No learning curve. Most chords are just one or two fingers. You just ignore and omit the e - a - d strings that are missing.

I tried to turn c.b.gitty https://www.cbgitty.com/ on to this tuning hoping that they would make both kits and finished c.b.g.s scaled to little fingers but they are adamantly stuck on g and e open tunings.

Loog https://loogguitars.com/collections/sho ... o-acoustic gets it and sell all that they can import. I bought one for my middle grandson and he loves it.
