The work on the Mosin Nagant is pretty well finished.
Now on to load development.
I cold blued the barrel, refinished the stock, added a recoil pad and threw away the military steel buttplate.
Loading some cast bullet loads to test ..

Nice work Jim, the word "Robust" comes to mind, I have used a Mosin Nagant at the range and they certainly deserve their reputation

Looks pretty slick. Perfect little knock about carbine in a more than capable cartridge.
Make sure to take a fire extinguisher along, the fireball from that little bugger could set the range on fire.

I have no idea on the wood Nath. It is dense and heavy. The stock will make a nice oar if you need it .. or a good club if you need that.

Nath, most of the Mosin stocks were made of arctic birch, with a small portion made of beech. The ones made by Remington and New England Westinghouse were walnut.

Artic birch has to be far more dense than the stuff around growing me.

Bill .. Nath .. I don't know that this will help .. but here is the end I cut off the Mosin stock so I could mount the recoil pad. I don't know much about different woods and have no clue what this is .. but it is heavy!
