Post by haddon1 »

Thinking of buying cimarron 1892 carbine . Anybody own one? Does Armi Sport make a good 1892 carbine model? Whats the accuracy at 100 yards like? Thanks Everyone!

I have one. It looks good, shoots good, and is accurate. It is hard to tell the difference between my 92 Winchesters and the Cimarron in how they look. IMHO there is no comparison between the Rossi and the Cimarron. Cimarron hands down!

True, the Armi Sport 92 importered by Cimorron does have the correct lines on the outside as the original Winchester 92. More correct than the rossi for sure. But, they have some reverse engineered changes inside that aren't anything like the original. The early Armi Sport guns were made from Armi San Marco parts and had some functionality problems. The current guns are much better but they have done some things I think are solutions to problem that don't exist. (cut cost?) The lever/bolt pin is screwed in. Somebody's gonna end up beating he!! out of one of these guns thinking it's like the original.
Another issue is the tiny nut they added to the loading gate rather than thread the gate. If you don't know this taking one apart you will most likely lose it. They have changed the angle of the rim slots in the cart guides too. This will make them more ammo sensitive, but more important the 357m guns have a left side guide but it doesn’t have the carrier detent skirt on it like the original. Rather than leave enough metal on the inside of the frame for the detent they added a piece that has a screw into the inside of the receiver that I know can’t have more than one full thread holding the piece in place.

But the one that drives me nuts, like the old ASM’s it has a two piece ejector that is prone to separate. I do like there takedown gun. I bought one in 357mag but it now has a Rossi ejector, lever/bolt pin, cart guides and loading gate.

Well, I have a TD rifle in 44WCF. It is the slickest out of the box rifle I have ever owned. I like mine. In all fairness, however, they cost twice what the Rossi does!

So,if I understand Nate correctly, all of those trouble spots in the Cimmaron can be remedied with the Rossi parts. How much would that cost roughly and would it be worth the time and trouble?

I don't have an Armi Sport 1892, but I do have their rendition of the 1865 Spencer, and it is beautifully fit and finished. I can also attest that the old Armi San Marco weapons were HIGHLY irratic in quality!

Yep, hard to out run one's history - even if it is a decade old! ASM is history.
