What would be a ballpark estimate for a typical barrel/tube shortening on a lvergun. I'm thinking of a project later on down the road and wanted to see what you all have seen and experienced.
Thanks,
Patrick

Re: Shortening a Levergun?
I can't recall what Nate Kiowa Jones (Steve Young) charged me, as it was part of an overall package of changes I had done to my Puma '92. It was very reasonable - and he did masterful work, as always. I would PM him!

Re: Shortening a Levergun?
I believe I paid around 40 or $50 to have my Browning 86 carbine cut down a couple inches. That was about 6 or 8 years ago.

Re: Shortening a Levergun?
Sorry, I can't help much, as I've always done my own - and I can't be worth much, since the jobs didn't cost me anything !

Re: Shortening a Levergun?
Pete makes a good point, how much (if any) of the work would you do yourself. There would be
Shorten barrel
Shorten mag tube
Reinstall front sight
Reinstall mag tube and front barrel band
Refinishing (maybe)
the cost of some of which is dependent on the model of firearm. You might have dovetail cuts, etc.

Re: Shortening a Levergun?
Shorten barrel - + Recrown muzzle
Shorten mag tube - + Refile notches for band screw passage as req'd
Reinstall front sight - As EZ as D/T 2 holes for ramp or as hard as filing a dovetail slot
Reinstall mag tube and front barrel band - The barrel is usualy fatter, further rearward, requiring filing/reaming the inside of bands to fit
Refinishing (maybe) - Not needed, if you're careful

"...Reinstall front sight - As EZ as D/T 2 holes for ramp or as hard as filing a dovetail slot"
.....Or sweat or silver solder the base back on. Most of the early carbines had the front sight silver brazed and dovetailed and peened (done in such a way as to look like an integral forging with the barrel) The good copies of early carbines (Brownings) have the front carbine sight silver soldered on.

And maybe shortening & fitting the forearm.
And rechambering if you shorten it from the chamber end.
