Out of State CCW or Open Carry...

Post by AJMD429 »

.
So....

New Mexico's laws say that Carrying Concealed is only permitted with other state licenses they reciprocate with, and Indiana isn't one of them. But New Mexico's laws ALSO say "open carry" is legal for "anyone authorized to possess a handgun"...

Since they don't say "residents of New Mexico authorized to possess a handgun", and I am 'authorized to possess a handgun', I take it to mean that I could travel to there, and indeed open-carry a handgun.

That seems odd, and I've generally not been one to 'open carry' although in hot weather when in my usual places (I hardly go anywhere but Rural King, my office, and Ace Hardware) I'll just carry OWB wearing a T-shirt, and as a courtesy to those who may not like flashed guns, I'll un-tuck my T-shirt and pull it over the top part of the gun. To me, it seems like open-carry just irritates non-gun-people, and gives bad-guys the edge of knowing you're armed and what with and where it is.

But I'm willing to open carry if that is the only way to have protection.

Anyone know if that's the real situation in New Mexico for 'outsiders'...???

Here's a smart phone app that is frequently updated. Comprehensive info and addresses open carry as well. IIRC it's $1 per yr.

As with all things legal, use due diligence.

I've always carried concealed in New Mexico and Arizona, though open carry is not uncommon in some places.

On our last trip to Arkansas for a bike rally, one of my guys carried openly, the rest of us carried concealed. He got a lot more unnecessary attention than we did. Legal or not, we unfortunately have Karens among us, and they live in New Mexico too.

the regs I go by are the car-carry regs for travelers on a journey. none of which avail anything in ka. some states treat an rv as a domicile, some do not. some states require a handgun to be in plain sight in the car, some require the hand gun to be out of sight, but not on the driver, some permit open carry, etc. a morass, with the inflection on the last syllable.
