Scott, if you remove them is there a maker's mark? Maybe a take on a Jordan?

Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
Sure can!
They are wood, most likely Rosewood
(Sorry I just had to be THAT guy)
They look a little on the fat side but I bet they feel good in the hand.

Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
Oh I don't know about the wood. Could be orange crate.
I'm interested in the maker because these are compact but comfortable even with full house .45 Colt loads. I would like to see who makes them and perhaps order some more.
I've tried to take them off, but they are so well-fitted that I can't get them to move once the screw is out and they are fitted so tightly that I can't get a blade in there to pry them for fear that I may damage them.

Tedd made grips of that shape. I saw them in his shop as well as his catalogue. He had people send him a tracing of their hand and he made them to fit specific hand sizes. Send pictures of the grips to Taffin and see what he says. He knows most every grip maker.

.
Sometimes you can take the screw and loosen it a bit and then tap the head of it to push the far side grip out. Of course you could risk listening the stud nut butt it wouldn't be hard to put back in place.

Tried that. No budge and I was afraid I would knock the stud nut out before I got the stocks to move. I'll see what I can do this weekend by tapping the frame with a brass hammer.

Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
Look like Ahrends grips to me. I have a bunch of his revolver grips, but not that particular model. Kim Ahrends closed up shop in 2020. They remain popular with SW guys, and prices have shot up from around $70 new in 2020 to sometimes over $150 used now. There is a set (oil finished and a different model) on the SW forum now for $190! They sometimes show up on eBay and, of course, the SW forum classifieds.
They do fit tightly and I usually have to use the method AJMD429 recommended above.

Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
I have several sets of Ahrends grips and they are very well done.
The speedloader cutout on these is different from any Ahrends grip that I have ever seen. Almost like they tried to duplicate the S&W design in that regard from the Bangor Punta era.

I have two sets of Ahrends grips with that exact speedloader cutout (most are different). I will post photos of them in two or three hours.

Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
I’d sure like another set just like these for my other Smith Mountain Gun

Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
Here are my two sets of Ahrends with that same speedloader cut. Your appears to be the same as the one on the upper right, without the finger grooves. Ahrends often offered them with or without the grooves.

Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
Its a shame that he is out of business. These stocks fit very well to both the gun and my hand.

Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
Didn't the Mountain Guns come with Ahrends grips from the factory? Mine had Ahrends on it but in my dry climate they warped and I replaced them with Eagle grips.

Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
My Mountain Gun came with Hogue Goodyears, but I would not be surprised if some came with Ahrends grips. He did supply a bunch of stocks to SW.
Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
The set on the left of the pic posted by InTheWoods were called the Retro Targets I believe, sort of a Roper but not quite. I tried a set and they were too narrow to be comfortable for me. I reworked them to K frame size and they're living happily on a Model 10.
Re: Can anyone identify these stocks?
I read a story once by Skeeter Skelton's son who said that he came into a room and found his father with a new Smith revolver, filing away at the grips. Apparently he liked his grips narrow as well as his front sights. The original front sights on medium and large frame Smiths are 1/8" wide and Skeeter wanted them no wider than 1/10". If he didn't narrow the front sight blade, he widened the rear sight notch. Skeeter Skelton's books are pricey but numerous stories of his can be found at darkcanyon.net>skeeter_skelton.
