It all started 7-years ago. I was a big fan of the Marlin 1894c, had two (1980 1984), sold both of them for 2.5x's what I paid for them. In the end I wanted more reach and I really missed having a .30WCF. I recently bought a Henry Steel in .30WCF--like 3-weeks ago. The Henry is a great choice, but two days after I bought the Henry a local pawn shop acquired a Marlin 336 .30WCF (1974). So, I sold the Henry for almost what I paid for it and I picked up the Marlin 336 for $550.00.
I took the Marlin 336 apart tonight, bluing still good, no rust, some crud, basic wear, screws were in good shape, and wiped all the parts down with Kroil Oil because it looked "dry". The stock and forearm (see pics) need to be refinished--next project. I'm going to replace the front sight with an XS sight and a Williams FP-94/36 receiver sight that came off a 1977 Winchester 94.
The Marlin 336 came with a 4X Bushnell Sportview scope (Korea), an inexpensive scope, you can find them on ebay for $20-30.00. I am impressed by it's clarity, put the scope on my second Henry Classic Carbine .22-cal and was shooting clay pigeons and pieces of clays at 60-yards.
Henry makes a great product, but after taking the 336 apart I just like the build quality better... :)

Good for you.
Did you shoot it first? If so how's it do?

Can't fault a JM Marlin. I've got a couple of them, so that when I wear out the first one I'll have a spare ready to go.

JM Marlins are pretty decent. PillHer has one in pre-336 version. More accurate than I am anymore.
