Residential rabbits....
....means air gun only!
Some locals with horse paddocks and gardens have been in touch regarding a rabbit explosion, can I help they asked.
Well some one has to do it and besides, I just got a new air rifle. A Walther Terrus in 177.
After a little fettling like polishing the piston, increasing pre load and stoning the trigger the darn thing is like a laser!
Nothing is safe upto 60yds or so! I can't handle them all at this time of year. It's a shame to waste them but I did take one home tonight, a 49 paced shot off hand. Head shot! It's been a long day here, out at 3:30am on the hunt before dawn for fox. Back out at 10am pigeon shooting. I'm ready for bed

I didn't realize a 177 would be rabbit-lethal out past 15 yards or so...!

Excellent! Thanks for posting Nath.
Re: Residential rabbits....
For example this pellet was under the skin on the far side after negotiating bone structures off the upper jaw at near 50yds.
Retail ☹ no way, I know how miserable I am a customer!!

Re: Residential rabbits....
Actually have had people saying they have seen rabbits where I live, I've not seen a rabbit near here for years so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they may return...

They do seem to be making a little bit of a comeback and I hope it it lasting.
I cooked that one for my supper yesterday. It was superb. I don't usually bother in summer but with it being unusually cool I went and skinned it and jointed it still warm.

Very nice Nath, you are a hard worker! Or is that called work---more like fun to me, you have a great occupation.
I kill plenty of cottontails with an old Beeman R-7 in 177. Probably only shoots 8 grain pellets about 700fps.
Many fleas this time of year over on your side of the pond? I bet the rabbits are nice and fat.

What would a realistic maximum range be for a lethal hit on a rabbit with a 177 Air Rifle...???

Re: Residential rabbits....
Just checked out that pellet gun, very good reviews, unfortunately its unavailable everywhere I checked so far.
Re: Residential rabbits....
So far the rabbit flea doesn't seem to bad. No doubt though it will bloom before much longer.ywaltzucanrknrl wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 8:36 am Very nice Nath, you are a hard worker! Or is that called work---more like fun to me, you have a great occupation.

I've managed a few to 55ish yards. A bunnies head gets tricky after that off hand.
I think this airgun is up by 100fps or so state side than here.

Re: Residential rabbits....
I just had carpel tunnel surgery last Friday. As soon as I recover from that I'm looking to get a Weihrauch 97 to help with the pest problems around here. I was looking at the Weihrauch 97 and a TX200 but then I found out that the Weihrauch can be shot from either shoulder, not so with TX 200.
