380/200 Brit in 38spl?
Has anybody here ever try replicating the 380/200 British load in a 38 Special case? If so, what was your load? I've got the Lyman 358430 195gr mold and would like to try it in 38 spl since I don't have a Webley. TIA
Re: 380/200 Brit in 38spl?
Older Lyman or Ideal loading manuals should have 38 spl data for that weight bullet.
Every now and then someone seems to rediscover the 200 gr bullets in 38 spl or 38 S&W. If youre doing loads up for fun, great, but dont expect any stunning performance. Theyve always been so-so at best, and I think inferior to SWC or even full wadcutter loads for most purposes. They didnt fade out because the world somehow forgot how awesome they were, they faded out because not enough people bought them to make them practical to manufacture. None of the known shooting experimenters and hunters had much positive to say about them unless compared to the 158 gr RN loads which were/are pretty blah in the terminal performance department. After the first few times you get cottontails and jack rabbits get up and run away after body hits with RN bullets (38s, even 44 spl and 45 auto/45 Colt) or just very blah performance on coyote size animals you tend to lose some enthusiasm for them.

I can understand that given what the army's expiriences were with the 38 long colt in the Philipines! My only other load for the 358430 bullet had been 10gr 2400 in spl cases crimped in the forward lube groove. I just thought I'd do a light load that tumbles when it hits something like the old 380/200 load did.

Malamute, you make them sound a bit on the underpowered and not very effective side of things. Honesty can be hard on manufacturers hopes.
Might be OK for practice if they are cheap to load.

Aside from the amount of lead, 200gr after all, it would be pretty cheap to shoot.
