Home made trap gun

Post by AmBraCol »

Since the Amazon Basin is where I grew up, I got to see all kinds of "interesting contraptions" and some very sketchy stuff indeed. It amuses me to see folks up north asking "is it safe to shoot?" when talking about some old muzzle loading firearm with no pitting and a typical of the US heavy walled barrel. Shucks, my first muzzle loader had a barrel like a curtain rod with the breech area reinforced with steel wire wrapping brazed around it.

Anyway, while looking for information on the "badoque" I came across this bit of Youtube entertainment.

They came across a piece of pipe sized perfectly for a 32 gauge shot shell. Then they welded a bit of thread to it, fitted a cap, welded a trigger mechanism and it's "good to go". All I can say is, at least it's not a shoulder fired weapon! It's designed to be set up on a game trail with a trip wire to set it off. Tied to a tree means no one's got to hold it to fire it.

Anyway, it's educational about how folks in other places fill the cook pot.

OK. Before I get back to work, one more video on a related subject.

It's amazing how simple things can be used to produce a functioning firearm. Laws forbidding firearms are futile, to say the least. I'd never seen that type of ignition system, but it works fine! Shucks, you could bypass the rubber band and (if you've got solid anchor points) merely use tightly twisted Dacron or other synthetic thread/cord to power the striker. Apparently the builder is a south paw, by the way, judging by which side of the barrel the cap is on.
