Productive Day

Post by Griff »

Earlier in the week I agreed to take a load down to FL, leaving Sunday... And, decided that I'd go shoot my club's monthly cowboy match on Saturday. Mainly so I could get some practice in with my newly short stroked Uberti 1873 converted to shoot C45S... Thought about shooting my .36 1851s, but... decided I'd stick with smokeless and shoot the Colt SAAs... After putting in a new bolt/trigger spring that broke last Sunday. I bought 4 of the wire springs from Brownell's, mfg'd by Heime (sp?)... I'd had one in it from about 1995 when the gun was last tuned. These are well made and fit perfectly. Finally, I looked at my ammo inventory. Oh... no... low, low low! I knew I had "enough"... but I might have to take one of the 45 Colt rifles to make sure I had enough. Didn't fit into the plan! :D

So... since my reloading shop is out in the workshop area of the barn, I checked the weather... Yesterday would be tolerable... and it actually turned out to be quite pleasant. After my last big match, I'd filled both tumblers full of brass, 45 Colt, C45S, .30-30, & 45ACP... and had already tumbled them for a few hours, nice and clean! But, I couldn't find my separater! So, more hand work! I have plenty of brass, At least the equivalent of a 3 gallon bucket of each... Plus what was freshly tumbled in the Dillon 2000 tumbler and the Lyman 1200! Powder & primers are not in short supply right now in my storage cabinet... But they will be if I continue to spill a whole powder measure off the Dillon! Forgot to tighten it down as I started to weigh my charges... But... after about 3-½ hours I had 3 full cans of ammo! Loaded 10 primer tubes... 1,000 rounds!

As I was looking for ammo... I ran across a bag of brass that hadn't been cleaned after my BP match back in late September... So after a session with the sonic cleaner and trip in the oven at 170ºF for an hour... Which will go in the tumbler... after I get back from FL!

Ive been shooting a lot of .38 Special and .357 over the past two weeks so I am keeping the tumblers running. Glad I am not the only person who has found a bag full of black powder brass that had been forgotten!

Safe travels Brother.

It's been 5 days now... I wonder when the elbow will quit hurting? Probably shouldn't have pushed so hard to do it all at one sitting...

We should all learn from you how to budget time. I reckon most of us are out on the road a heck of a lot less, yet somehow you manage to find time to shoot a variety of guns at a variety of places.
