Hodgon 200grain data in 357

Post by mickbr »

I check in on the data occasionally and hadnt seen it before. 1272fps one load shows, pretty decent numbers.

I remember a 200gr fmj .357 bullet, can't say I ever loaded any. A silhouette bullet i believe?
But I loaded an app on my phone, Reloading Assistant. It has a few 200 gr recipes. Best I see is a VitiVory powder breaking 1200.
BROWN LABS MATTER !!

I also think Hodgon load data is helped along with the 8" test barrel

I chronographed the following from a 2.75" M66-8 using a LabRadar unit.

Labradar Muzzle Velocity (familiarization run)
60 Deg F
S&W M66-8 2.75" .357 Mag

185gr LFNGC (Beartooth), 15.0gr Lil'Gun, CCI 400 New Starline.. 1,228 fps avg (14 fps ES) – two rounds
200gr WLNGC (leadheads), 13.4gr H110, Fed 205, New Starline.. 1,102 fps avg ( 4 fps ES) – two rounds
200gr WLNGC (leadheads), 14.4gr H110, Fed 205, New Starline.. 1,155 fps avg ( 2 fps ES) – two rounds
(purported to be the “Doubletap” load info)
200gr WLNGC (leadheads) handload with 15.0gr, Fed 205s LilGun . 1,266 fps avg ( 2 fps ES) -- two rounds
Maybe too much of a good thing. Spent cases fell from chambers, and no obvious signs of over pressure. Recoil was heavy. Don't even know if this stabilizes.

These loads are not listed in any published manual I'm aware of. The H110 200gr loads were extrapolated from old speer manual using 200gr Sihl bullet seated to an OAL of almost 1.700" IIRC. The above OALs are right at 1.600"
