After talking with Steve Young and some of the guys on here I decided to cut the octagon barrel and see what's what.
The gun before I started. Ridiculously long. Unwieldy for me. Too front end heavy. Needed a wheel on it if you were gonna drag it through the hills all day long. (those who love looooong barrels, please forgive my sarcasm).
I decided to cut the barrel to 18". That way if I later decided to turn it down there would be material to work with.
I shortened the forend.
Had to cut a dovetail for the hanger for the forend cap.
This is how much I had to shorten the magazine tube.
During this time I had the gun apart A LOT, polishing and cleaning up the internals. I used Steve Young's DVD and also called him about a couple issues but eventually I got those cleared up AND figured out how to put it back together. I reshaped the forend so it didn't have a "belly" on it, got the dovetail for the front sight cut and all of sudden, there it was!
The magazine holds 10 .357's ... and it feeds .357's and .38's pretty slick. Feeds 357 SWC's nice! .38's run like butter through it.
I like the feel of it and may just leave it like this. It's short enough it handles well and balances decently in the hand. Now if the weather will co-operate I will get on the range with it.

Congrats Jim... Looks like exceedingly fine work. My 45 Colt Short Rifle is 20" full octagon and I've thought several times about making it a ½ round... but far I've resisted. Even though there's not much taper to this bbl., it's still quite handy. I figure you're going to really enjoy it!
