OT - Bow - GIVEN AWAY TO MONTANAN

Post by deerwhacker444 »

.
Folks

I was fortunate last year and was able to upgrade my archery equipment and take my first deer. It took me about 15 years to finally score. Since then, my old bow, shown below, has just been hanging on the wall collecting dust.

Image

The bow is kinda old. It's a Mathews Ultralight from the mid to late 90's. It's all set up pretty well and to the best of my knowledge only needs a set of arrows to start hunting, maybe a stabilizer if you need it. It is Left Handed which will preclude a bunch of folks. Right now it's pulling about 72 lbs at 28"-29" draw. I put a new string on it a couple of years ago and it hasn't been shot much since. I think it shoots around 225-230 fps with full length arrows and 100gr. heads. Not superfast, but fast enough to make a clean kill if distances are kept moderate.

Image

What I would like to do is give it to someone who needs a good bow but maybe doesn't have the resources to get started in Archery. I'm asking you good folks on here if there is anybody you know that might fit the bill. I don't want it to go to someone to store in their closet for an extra. I'd like it to be used to teach and get somebody started down the right path.

Image

If anybody is interested, reply to this post. All I ask is that if you receive it and are happy with it, please send some $ back to me to cover the postage. I'll try to wrap it up and ship it in a box so it will arrive in one piece

Deerwhacker444,
A most geneous offer, this good karma will come back to you ten-fold.
A side note, my friend picked up a Bear compound at a yard sale; he was very proud of it.
John is right- handed and the bow was left -handed, he did not know the difference.
He asked me to help him learn how to shoot it, so I taught him.
After six months, I told him the truth ; but by then he had become competent with it and it made NO difference

Maybe when I get bored with the training wheels. Right now I need all the advantage I can get. Those guys with no wheels are Studs though, I've got to admit.

Not being a stud. Just good healthy relaxation.

I have a 50# and a 60# Martin Vision, but I started ( as an old man) with a Bear Montana. Traditional is the only way to fly. Cut the stress and fly by the seat of your pants. You'll love it.

I agree with Rusty :D :D

Congrats on your deer. A nice offer. I will sweeten the pot, I will pay the shipping so it will be completely free to the person that can use it.

If I even knew how to hold one, I would jump at that deal. I am afraid that I would hit something I don't want to hit.

Mescalero, Is the weight setting adjustable on this bow? My left-handed wife is interested in your offer, but I think a bow much over 50 is going to be a problem for her.

While I'm happy for you and not a fanatical opponent of the gizmo bows, I do think that you'd be happier with the "real" thing. Just the reduction in weight is reason enough to go to a simple recurve.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I didn't mean to start a hijack of a topic with such a wonderful purpose. I have a compound too. I've even shot it.

Thanks folks

Montanan says he has a young man up his way that needs one, and that's just what I was looking for. Thanks for the interest and the kind words.

I can't say thank you enough Deerwhacker444, this is awesome!!!!

I even got mine out to practice some, the doctor told me I could with my shoulder injury to my left shoulder (I shoot RH) but to turn mine down to 60# draw from the 70# I was shooting it at.

Just gotta love a Mathews
