It's back to misery.....raining......complete overcast.......

For being a rocket scientist I learned something new....even at 67....yesterday, just for the hell of it I cut up a 15-20' branch that broke off of a willow tree........I usually toss ALL willow in the brush pile on the back 40......this S burns hot! Don't last long but it's great for this time of the year.....I must have 2-3 cords of it scattered around out back...

I saw a commercial last night on toilet paper or whatever they call that roll of white paper.....I asked mom, "what do they use that for". Never heard of it as we, in da back woods, just drop and run!!-----00

Mystery package solved!! Due to this covid garbage i decided to mail in the dog license check & rabies certificates. Instructions were to include a self addressed envelope with postage. Guess what, 3 licenses, paperwork cost 4 bucks & change to ship!!

New job today, no cell service, no wifi= blackhole for comm's.

For the first time in many years Im beginning to lose faith in the mail system......I've had more aggravation in the last year or two than I have had years prior.....but..........but..........the election advertisements ALWAYS make it through.

I'm undecided what to do.....I said last year I'm never going to vote again....dunno....maybe I made that decision with anger.

Who is that guy floating around in space? I heard many years ago that some Russian Cosmonauts are floating around for the last 50 years...dunno

Miserable outside...dogs are climbing up my &$5"? to go for a walk....nada.....ever smell a wet dog that rolled around in geese poop? Speaking of geese, about 15 more decided to call our little pond home......must be mid twenty-some out there.....I chase em off and they come right back........don't want to hurt them as they don't know the difference and they are nice to see but the S has become intolerable....

Still in freakin Portland. My mom didn't in to surgery till 2hrs late. Same ole same old. Stopped into cabelas and looked around. Bought some cleaning patches. People in there like pigeons on a French fry, scooping up whatever ammo they could get for whatever gouged price was on it.
There's no hope.

I refer to them as flying groundhogs. We used to have a great pond to hunt geese, property has changed hands. Anyway, a nice island on it where we could set up and blast geese every evening. We shot a lot, tried every which way to cook em, even grinding them and making baloney still made your jaw hurt trying to chew . Naw ill pass but I do miss shooting them.

Hope Moms surgery went well!? Give her our best wishes.

Seems like the postal system has gotten slower and less efficient. Our local office has an oriental woman, can't understand a word she says, WHY put her at the counter?
Seems like once a week there is a rollback there to haul off a truck. They are murder on those trucks, floor the gas & slam on the brakes between every mailbox.

Hospitals are just like the court system and the government. Just waste time and money. Always talking about being backed up and doing things to be more efficient, while every day it gets worse.

I've got to take my Mom tomorrow for a Dr appointment. This chicom garbage doesn't allow me to accompany her inside. I might have questions for the doctor but if I can't go in how can I get answers?

Found out today 'our ' painter is back in the horsepistol for the 3rd time, covid pneumonia has caused blood clots in his lungs.

Good news Jay!....yes.....hospital waits are long and timeless..........one time 26 years ago I visited the hospital everyday for 3 months......can you imagine how it is for the patient? How's dad holding up?

I may be offline...my iPad is locking up and I've done everything that your supposed to do like complete resets...blah blah...if this thing goes I'm not buying another for the same reason I'm not buying the correct motor for the table saw.......may have to use mom's phone........

That's when things happen...when people get fed up with prices...I don't mind inflation or viable reasons for cost increases but when I picked up a pizza, 2 pepsi's. and a bag of chips and the bill came to $44.90. I had enough of this S.....mom's BIL went out and bought a 2 lb package of hamburger, a whole chicken, some bread and a few small items and the bill was $165......gas is pushing $4 a gallon and WILL go much high....insurance is going crazy and now the school board is raising taxes a lot because it must be hard teaching from home.......car jackings and shootings are going crazy in Philly but you know, you not allowed to say WHO is the problem.....F animals....

Commercials on TV are not the way life is.....constant black and white couples, blacks living in expensive houses with a white guy cutting their grass.(yes)....5 people all having a problem and the lone black person figures it out.....sure, it happens but I've never seen it.

Think Ill take the iPad to CVS tomorrow and download a couple of hundred pictures to be printed and then wipe out my iPad completely.........that might work......

These F democrats are destroying this nation.......can't imagine if this S happened when I was raising a family or how regular folk do it today.......the money it took me a lifetime to save is worth less everyday........and is going to lazy people of all races....

Old man is good. Glad I came to keep him company. Still sitting in the Grand Cherokee. Been here in the parking lot since 2 o'clock. They finally called and said maybe in an hour or 2. Roads are glare ice. Glad it's only a 100 miles.

We ran around earlier (got down here at 9:30 this morning). Went to Cabelas and a surplus store. Ran out of interesting places to go and just been sitting here since. Bums walking around everywhere. Pants half ripped off, filthy.
No worry. I got my Colt LW Commander stuffed full of Hornady XTPs. The old man has his 70 series Combat Commander in satin nickel with Winchester PDXs.

Yup. This country is done. Done.
Well, it was a good ride while it lasted. Got a couple hundred years out of it.

I'm home. No sweat buddy, it wasn't bad going. Got ma in the house and put to bed.
Came home and wolfed down a few pieces of cold pizza and a couple beers.
I had some buffalo wings at Chillis for lunch. I'd used those up.

Anyway......it's been a day.

Gonna check on ma in the morning. Kristy picked her up some flowers today.
Guess she and the kids had a big ole time here while I was gone. Ordered pizza and had a bunch of laughs. Sorry I missed that......well.....their loss. I'M the life of those parties, let me tell ya!

Yesterday we started this new job, the original house was a prefab, now with a large addition one end. The whole place was stripped & gutted. The way this was built is interesting, the house was built in 16' sections and bolted together on site. The floor system is steel C channel, light weight to say the least, but it's solid! Between the addition, new roof structure the sheathing count was 170 sheets of 5/8 plywood at $50 a sheet! The budget is over already by quite a bit. People are still willing to spend BIG bucks. The owner is a crane mechanic at the port, no idea what kind of money he makes but he is a big hunter- good guy.

Glad your commute home was safe!

Sounds like a trailer park or camp ground to me!

Six, here in Cali land hit hard by the pan and homelessness a few miles from here is an “encampment” made up of about 20 RVs on a dirt road next to the freeway, have driven by it many times on the way to one of the golf courses. And as you have read a pit bull went haywire there and attacked 4-5 people.

Lot of crazy stuff out here, some of it too bizarre to post here.

Ma is a little sick this morning. Thinking it's all the ibuprofen on an empty stomach. Have to keep a close eye for a couple days.
Wife is home today so we can get meals and stuff. Ma usually bounces back pretty quick. If course, they are getting old.

The answer was Kathleen Quinlin who was in a deep coma during a National controversy.....yea, not funny, but neither is letting felons out on cashless bail.

Fred.....that's amazing...for real...no sarcasm......there are many decent folk who just can't make it there........rich people in California have made it near impossible for the average wage owner to live a lifestyle anywhere near comfortable. Drugs are probably 80% of the problem and the Feds CAN do something.....if the satellites can read the date on a dime they know where the cocoa trees and the poppy fields are...then napalm 'em.

It's no different here...there's no way I'd be able to move in around here in this date and time.......it was rural land in 1974 and good quality road frontage ground was going for 5K an acre.....I paid 2 an acre and still have the cancelled check.

Well, at least the rain stopped...

Funny thing......you live your life.........and life is hard..........you do the best you can for yourself and your family........you put up with unrelenting B.S.........you worry yourself sick sometimes during those uncertain times.......you protect yourself with monstrous insurance bills.........work the first 6 months out of the year for other people you don't know....(yes, 50% of your wages goes to taxes).......your thinking all the time how to keep your head above water, then more years of figuring out how to keep your children's head above water so they don't come back to live in your basement.......(I made that clear).......wars, diseases, unending propaganda from all sides.

Once in a while you have some fun at the gun club, golf course, woods...whatever........then you die.....(hopefully it's quick or the nursing homes and medical corporations will get your sweat.)

Then the vultures start circling overhead......then they will dive bomb from all directions........

And it all ends with 27 replies on the board.

Fired up the old chainsaw today and replenished my wood pile a bit, forecast heavy snow in Hampshire tomorrow and the power will be off some of the day for storm damage repairs..
Got into the woods now the wind has finally dropped, there's going to be lots of firewood, mostly Beech.

I love beech for firewood.....it's the best compromise between poplar and oak, but closer to oak....
We have lots of it around here......I really don't care for oak.....maybe if we had a big house that wasn't insulated........or a fireplace.........

We heated here for 3 years solid with poplar......it's all in how and the size you split it and how much air you give the stove. Poplar burns hot.

We have a good deal of beech here but we treat it as a weed tree, it root suckers and continues to take over. Its good for firewood but I prefer oak. Sure its a bear to split but much higher BTUs. Hickory and locust are higher btu but not as many of those around here.
So are we taking bets on how many Rovers stuck Sir John can find in the blizzard? We are to get some snow again Friday, 3-5 or 5+ , right on the razors edge of the forecast.

Yes boys, beech is pretty good stove wood. We have TONS of it here. Beech ridges is a favorite place for the boys up here to hunt. Beech nuts is a deer favorite in big woods with no agriculture. And it's the place where you can see the farthest in our woods.

Growing up My Dad was a tough guy. total old school who kept His Head Down , Mouth Shut , and Hands Moving. He always wanted respect. As He got older he totally started to mellow out. He never looked old, had Clark Gable looks and had a widow maker at 58 when I was 27. I had just been married not long before and was finally getting to know Him. I was devastated . At the funeral one of My relative's older than Me took Me aside. She said "no matter how hard this is Now always re member that He never got Old, or Sick , or suffered". I'll never forget those words. the older I get the more they ring home.

Thanks Old Win, What I wouldn't have given to have some more time with Dad. The things He new about the family ,and the history of the area could never be replaced. Just sitting and having a Shot & Beer with Dad was amazing. He told Me of a fight He saw in India when in the Army in WW2. two Guys got into it and one had a little razor like a box cutter. He said the Guy with the razor cut the other from head to toe . He didn't die but left a lot of work for the doctors . Give Your Dad a Hug For Me.

I feel like that with my Grandfather. He has been gone since 94 and it sucks. He forgot more than ill ever know about being a woodsman, hunter, and trapper. Can't measure the loss.

Yep, takes a lot out of you when dad passes on....me and my dad were best of buddies until he passed in '07 at 79. Even at 79, he could still throw a hundred pound sack of whatever on his shoulder.....here one day and gone the next. I think of him 20 times a day. I don't think getting old is a bad thing....as long as you have decent health.

I'm only busting testicles on foreign guns......Rossi's are a good gun for the money......(uh oh!, Jay Bird kicking in).....being a Teamster for 44 years made me a loyal patriot and I hate seeing this country being given away and I'm sure you do to.

Me and mom just came back from play shopping......went to the post office to get the mail and I got to bull S with the postmaster (it's only a one person post office...the oldest in the country that's in the same location)......walked out the door, went to Home Depot and mom asked me where the mail was...ooops...left it all on the counter along with the box key.....

So I go to Home Depot and pick up tape, a new little lamp for mom's desk, some 100 watt LEDS and a timer for the barn.....$117....huh?.....I used to make that much gross for a 40 hour week back in '73.

Came back to the Jeep where mom stayed and was playing on her phone. I blasted one about 20' before I got to the Jeep and dang if some of it followed me, even on a windy day.---00

That is funny.....pull toy........the years...2000-about 2010....we had an old house trailer in the middle of the most secluded place in Pa.........long story, but the nearest camp was maybe 5 miles away.........the guys would play poker all night and I didn't play because I couldn't.....very bad...they'd take $20 or $30 from me and it would make me sick thinking I could have used that money for primers or something.......anyway......

I used to sit on an easy chair reading while the other 8 guys were at the big table playing cards and drinking....so there was always somebody going out the door to pee.........when the urge came, I would get up and let it out then walk towards the door and outside....I'd hear the guys in there gagging and exclaim "ok, whoever did that stop!" I'd do that 10 times in an evening and they never caught on it was me.

Temps are dropping fast.....70 today....28 tomorrow.....inside...76....
