Winchester 94 XTR - Locked Hammer / Mainspring
Hello,
New to the forum and new to leverguns. I recently purchased a Winchester 94 XTR as my first levergun. It was bought used so I decided to break it down and give it a good cleaning first. During the process of taking it apart the trigger assembly became hopelessly locked up. The hammer, mainspring, and trigger stop pin are all pretty much immovable. I'm hoping that I haven't done any irreparable damage to my new toy already.
Any thoughts or insight on how to possibly fix this would be greatly appreciated. I have linked some pictures of the trigger assembly as it currently sits below in a google photos folder. If you need more pics to ascertain the situation please let me know and I'll be happy to post them.

Re: Winchester 94 XTR - Locked Hammer / Mainspring
Not a problem. You can just drive to hammer roll pin out. You didn’t hurt a thing. You can also drive the spring guide rod back and rotate the hammer forward. There’s a hole in the guide rod for a small pin 1/16” I think to hold it back. Then rotate the hammer to what would be fired position and reset the fork on the hammer.

Re: Winchester 94 XTR - Locked Hammer / Mainspring
Thank you for the response. It’s good to hear I haven’t broken anything. Is the roll pin mentioned the one in the middle of the tang under the mainspring? I imagine the mainspring is currently under high tension. Will popping the pin release that tension dangerously and possibly need captured or secure somehow first? If possible I was looking just to reset the trigger and mainspring to their normal positioning but thinking at this point it may require disassembly and reassembly.

Not a “fork”. You have an early xtr. Every thing still applies. Easy peasenleemsc wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 9:30 pm Thank you for the response. It’s good to hear I haven’t broken anything. The hammer rotates on the pin. Here:

Trying to remember here…
A smallish square sided screw driver laid flat against the tang against the hammer spring guide rod and the “point” of the tand against something will allow you to move the guide rod away from the hammer so you can rotate the hammer into position. Then you lift the guide rod into the notch.
Or remove the roll pin. Not really a roll pin, just a sleeve.

Re: Winchester 94 XTR - Locked Hammer / Mainspring
Tycer,
Thanks again! I’ll give it a go tomorrow morning and see if I can get the spring depressed enough to rotate the hammer back into position. If not, I’ll move to removing the hammer sleeve.

Tycer,
I was able to get the spring compressed pretty easily but the hammer has no rotation forward, at all. I believe it is locked on the sear. Unless you have any suggestions on how to possibly release the sear so the hammer can rotate forward then I'll probably have to go to plan B and pop the hammer bushing and hope for the best.

Did you see the small hole in the spring guide rod? Move the rod back and slip a punch, nail, drill bit, paper clip in it and when you remove the hammer the spring and rod will stay put and not shoot parts all over the shop.leemsc wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 11:15 am Tycer,

Re: Winchester 94 XTR - Locked Hammer / Mainspring
Tycer,
Looked up and down and I don't see a hole in the guide rod. Looking at pictures of the guide rod online I'm not sure if this particular style has hole in the middle of the rod. I've uploaded a couple pics I found online of this style of guide rod and it looks solid all the way through except for the hole at the opposite end of the rod.
