When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
I know for me it has been far too long.....
I remember drinking brown water with Rob Leahy and Matt Olivier a couple of years back.
Prior to that, it has been many years since I shared a camp fire with anyone. The best stories are told around the fire. Think I will make one tonight.

.
Might be difficult if you live in an apartment but even in a city you can usually at least have a 'firepit'.

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
We have a place on the property near the house where we build a fire anytime we want. Then we sit around and share .. tell stories .. enjoy each others company ... enjoy the fire. We had the latest one last month.
Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
2018 I packed in everything up in these mountains by backpack, provisions for 3 days 2 nights, but came out the next morning dragging a doe I killed with my bow. 1 trip for meat, next back for my camp. It wasn't no great distance because my breathing is really bad, but I love camping-hunting, instilled into from my dad!
2019 I canoed into a favorite spot on a lake, camped 7 nights. I squirrel hunted and bowhunted deer. Great place for squirrels, just soso for deer. But the scenery and seclusion gives the feel of Canada. I got my deer later, a 6pt with my Mod64 Win, but not on this hunt.
I loved this stuff with my dad so much, miss it & him so much. He wasn't a deer hunter, but a true blooded squirrel hunter beyond compare! In 67 he was in a full back cast, a broken back in a mining accident occurred in June. In Sept, he'd go thru woods with shotgun In one hand, other hand holding the cast up, rubbed his hips!
America sure needs a lot more people raised by campfires!

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
Used to sit around a campfire regularly a few years ago when horse riding and camping in the New Forest UK, now I build campfires just for practice and oldtimes sake.
I taught my kids to build and cook on campfires when they were little.

We have a fire pit at the farm and had it fired up 2 weeks ago. Wind is a constant danger i n W Texas, a month ago a new neighbor fired a brush pile, 10 minutes later the wind started, burned 40 acres not far from us. The pendejo who lit it was a former firefighter.

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
Too long. The problem these days is there's no one to sit with around the fire.

Sounds like your dad still lives on, within you ... Cool stuff.

Two weeks ago down at my range in the woods. Snowmobiled down in and had a fire to warm my hands while I shot. It was pretty close to zero still even at 11 or so.

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
Far too long, amigo. I was thinking late in the 20th Century, but then thought some more and remembered (how could I forget?) sitting around a fire in the Mark Twain National Forest, along the North Fork of the White River - although we weren't right on the river. It was a grand time. Had my cousin, two brothers and my sons along. It was a nice, cold, November night. The next morning we had a family tradition breakfast of creamed corn and bacon, fixed over the fire like it's supposed to be. That was a glorious year, got to spend lots of family time for a change. That camp fire was one of the highlights. The closest to it since then has been an occasional visit to my in-laws' property where they have a fireplace on the second floor. It's an open fireplace, but still not up to the standard of a good camp fire.

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
I got me a waxed canvas tarp, 10'x12', little over a year ago, so next time I could make either a lean-to or Whelen type shelter, so I could build a fire with reflector right in front of it next time I camp. I got 2 nylon tents I been using, but a fire very close to them don't work very well! Done cut 3 poles from saplings about 12ft for it last year. I need to get back at it, done all my hunting close to home last 2 years. Nylon tents have spoiled me!

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
couple years ago in TX, then again a year+ in TX, any more the BBQ seems to have over taken that function. around here there are fire bans when we want a fire, and hot sun when we don't.

I think we would all be better off if we did this periodically. I’m going to look for opportunities.

I don't suppose burning a big pile of fallen timber counts? If so, I did two this past fall... My son did sit around and tell stories... even if we had to sit 25 ft away!

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
most recent was last august. there is a group of us that have a remote mine and we go out there a couple of weeks at a time all summer long. there is a campfire about every evening. i recently found an old but mint condition cast iron dutch oven that holds 4 gallons !! we are going to make some huge stews in that. by my calculations we only need 131 of our scrawny squirrels, 2-3 dozen grouse or ptarmigan or some moose or caribou and we will be set .

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
About 2 1/2 years ago went with my grandson on a cub scout campout. We had a great time - hiking, skits, ghost stories and food. After the kids went to bed the adults sat around the campfire and shared a nice bottle of Kentucky bourbon.

Yesterday, grilled a steak and some kabobs. Had some Grolsh with it.
Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
We light a fire all the time. My youngest really loves doing that.
Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
I have a 22.5" truck rim that we build a fire in from time to time. It's a neighborhood thing we do around here.

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
Not counting the fire brazier in my back yard, it's been two years since I was sitting around a camp fire in the bush. The first year our Black Powder shoot (known as The Winter Muster, held in June), at Hill End, NSW was cancelled due to the Rona, then the 2021 shoot had to be cancelled because the range and camping area were snowed in! (Yes, I know what you are thinking, Australia and snow?, well it does occassionally snow during the Winter Muster, but never like this!)
I have a photo of the snowed in town (taken by a local), and one of happier times around the campfire.

Re: When was the last time you sat around a campfire?
Last time we sat around a campfire was 4 years ago on our last elk hunt here. We had gotten an elk opening morning, and after taking care of it the rest of the day, we spent the evening enjoying a celebratory drink and a nice fire.
