Winchester 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine Stock

Post by cleljedal »

Hello to all, I recently purchased a Winchester 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine to add to my collection. The one I purchased had the but stock modified for a aftermarket shock absorbing but plate. The year of manufacture of my rifle is 1916 and I want to get the rifle back to its original configuration. To do this I need to find an 1894 saddle ring carbine stock, which has been proving to be harder than I thought. I am seeking any advice or assistance to locate a stock and but plate and any advise on how best top proceed with my search. Thank you in advance

Welcome to the fire Chris.... I had a SRC with a recoil pad, looked out of place all right, hope you can find an original.

Precision Gunworks of Texas or Gunville of NC both manufacture a 95% inserted SRC black walnut stock .
Either are excellent ,easy to finish. Usually just some light scraping in and final shape to action. And finally sand,stain,finish.0

IIRC, Winchester 1892 and 1894 buttstocks are the same. So if that's true and you see a 92 buttstock for sale, grab it!

+1, I got one and it didn't take a great deal of work. And they sell a good reproduction buttplate.

Most 1894 SRC had gum wood stocks,I've had a couple with walnut .Yes 1892 and 1894 use same stock.
Dobt know anyone making a replacement other than Walnut.

As for replacement stocks, MAYBE one from a Browning B92, Rossi or Italian 92 will work. But they could have metric dimensions so how close the fit is would need to be investigated.
