Ive been eyeballing the Cast Performance 200 grain WFN-GC for 357 mag. My google-fu has come up blank on load data though. I did find some fellas using a different 200gr projectile seated in 38spl brass (so it would feed in a levergun) with 12-14 grains of H110. Have any of ya'll tried these projectiles?

The April '21 Handloader article on .357 Rifles had data for the 180 LBT-GC with 14.0 of H110 max. It seems that 200's may be at the point of diminishing returns in the 357 case. I've used the Hunter's Supply 190 gr LFN with 11 grains of 2400 (found that data from Ed Harris somewhere online) in revolvers and carbines a bit, but I discovered that the "178 Keith" from Matt's bullets had far superior accuracy out to 100 yards.

I primarily use a 160 grain LFN-GC and really like it but 40 more grains might be fun

I couldn't get that Hunter's Supply 190 gr bullet to shoot well at all in a Ballard rifled 35 Remington. The few I had left got shoved into 38 cases with good dose of 4227, for sort of a Pugnose Super Police load. There they shot fine, but print high from an Airweight 38. IIRC I got 670 fps from a 1 7/8" barrel.

I WOULD CERTAINLY WORK UP TO THE HEAVY BULLET H110 and LIL'GUN LOADS.


In my guns(s) Spent cases fell from chambers, and no obvious signs of over pressure. Don't even know if the 200gr stabilizes. Lil'Gun seems pretty forgiving in the 357 Mag - and yes I know about the purported erosion problem in revolvers.


Also ran two Buff Bore 180s thru 16" Rossi M92 carbine ……………. 1,894 fps avg ( 6 fps ES) -- two rounds

The 185gr (also no longer avail) runs a little over 1,700 fps in the 18" Marlin and a little under 1,700 fps in the 16" Rossi.

You should get somewhere between 300 & 500 fps more velocity with a rifle.


NOTE: The Lyman 48 manual lists 15.0gr H110 as max for the 358429 at 1.553" OAL (seated and crimped over the front drive band). In my 5 1/2" FA M97 this load chronoed 1,384 fps at 5 long paces from the muzzle and 75 deg F. Bearing surface is different than the pictured 200gr Leadhead, but bullet intrusion in powder space would be pretty much the same.

I have had trouble getting any level of accuracy when I went over 180 gr in the .357. But 170 grain Keiths, 180 gr WFNGC, and 180 gr XTPs shoot well in all of my revolvers and both of my leverguns.

Yep. Me too. I like the 180s. I have a custom 207 gr that I used in the 360 Dan Wesson but have never tried it in 357 Mag.

Yep, they were less than stellar accuracy-wise in my Marlin .357 also, but do passably well in a revolver. With 2400 they average 1080 from a 4" barrel, and I carry it as my trail gun thumper load on occasion.
