Refugio looks like a suicide bomber... if all those rounds went off he's end up on the moon.

Love the vest of bullets! What type of gun is it that has the loading through the butt stock in the one picture?

The pic with the Cougars ? It looks like a Remington Model 24/Browning Auto-22/FN Auto rimfire.

Salty dudes, indeed - if they took any of those cats with a .22.

FYI the guy in the "rowboat" is actually in an Adirondac Guide Boat.
I plan to build one someday.

He'd better find a fixed position to defend since he won't be very mobile I suspect.;)

That first photo is either a Marlin 1892 or 1897. Those are just great photos!

Wow !! Thanks for posting these great photos. I love this stuff.

And I agree with many of the others, Refugio looks like something else!
Wonder how many cartridge belts he had to take off to go to the bathroom?

First, them dogs don't appear to be afeared of cats.

Second, that buck is HUGE.

Third, I think I met Refugio (or his brother) on my last hog hunt...

Very cool pics - thanks!!

It looks like the cat hunters' other rifle is an 1892 carbine in 25-20 or 32-20. It's a bit hard to see but it looks like a carbine forearm and a mag tube ring. If so, those guys are truly brave men. A 22 and a 32-20 would not be my idea of proper armament for a lion hunt, but it looks like these guys did just fine.

I see an 1895 with the moose hunters. And that IS a very nice mulie taken with the 1886.

Thanks Pete !

In the picture with the three upright deer and the two guys,
at first I thought they were hanging but now I think they
stood them up on their feet after riger mortis had set in.
I cant see any ropes at all.

Look at the one guy who looks like he is hugging his deer
and holding it up.

Naw ! A deer that big would fold, rigor or not ! Besides, look closely at the animal's necks, just next to the head/rear of the jaw, where a pressure line can be seen, from them hanging from a rope/whatever.
The meat pole rope might have been the same color/tint as the backdrop, making it/them hard to discern.

None of them are holding a deer tight enough, long enough, to hold it upright for a photo, IMHO, either.

Remington is a Model 24 - they are essentially identical.

These Guide boats are not the easiest boats to build as I'm sure you know, allot of bending and shaping involved, and many many hours.

I regularly check out that site to drool. I had it in my mind, until some responsibilities became obvious to me, that I would take one of the 15 foot kevlar units and go down the James River up the Chesapeake Bay and via the many waterways and not a few portages to Lake George and Lake Champlain OR come back home that way.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Uh-oh, here we go.
It's 1894. The bottom of the reciever is too flat and straight to be a 92.

I blew that photo up real big, and there is no trace of any rope or wire, but after looking at their boots and pants legs, I believe them deer are frozen.
