I find the whole family of balalakias and domras most interesting. The range of tunings is bewildering. The main three string tuning, prima is similar to some dulcimer tunings. The four string domra prima tuning is identical to the mandolin but the more generous string to fret spacing ratio gives me the idea that I might actually be able to learn to play one. I cannot play the mandolin well due to the fretboard cramptness and fat fingers. I just wish I could do tremelos as rapidly as those folk in the video.

I remember way back when we mobbed together to get up a string band in our sunday school class. We had guitarists a plenty and a tolerable banjo player. Somebody knew a sure enough fiddler who could join in when on a visit to our area. I was tasked with finding a mandolin player. I facetiously nominated megan mullins or sierra hull or sarah jaroz. The somewhat chauvinistic geezers were not at all impressed until the one with a smartphone (then new) looked-up their images. There was more than one wolf-whistle and "my oh my's!" as the phone was passed about.
