Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
or one of the 411s?
I've been obsessing over the .40 S&W after finally shooting my Blackhawk with the .40 cylinder in it. I have been looking at for an interesting auto loader to go with it.
There's quite a few of the former CHP 4006s out there and a couple of the 411s that I found interesting and was wondering if any of you guys had some experience with the S&W / .40 cal pistols. My M&Ps and Glocks are all 9mms and want to keep them that way. Just a quirk, but that's how my brain works.

That’s the single stack? No but my mom has a Ladysmith 3913. A single stack 9 that is a pretty solid pistol
I like 40 also. My Firestar is a tiny pistol that delivers a thump. I like 45 acp better but I think 40 is a great police cartridge and a good choice for self defense.

Re: Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
i don't have one but a friend has a 4006, and being all stainless steel, is built like a tank. As a matter of fact, the 4006 is the first pistol chambered for the 40 S&W cartridge and S&W actually designed it around that cartridge. Can't tell you much about the Model 411 except for the fact that it has an alloy frame. The 40 is a pretty stout round and given the choice of the two, I'd go with the 4006. I have a SIG P229 (the all stainless steel version, not the alloy framed one) and it soaks up the recoil of the 40 nicely.

I would really like own a Stoeger Cougar or a Beretta PX4 for some testing and shooting. Smiths feel good in the hand but they dont find me at a good price.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for. I was leaning towards the 4006 when I came across a 411 that had been lightly customized but still almost new in the box. My thinking is, that big chunk of stainless would be more fun to shoot.kaschi wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 10:30 pm i don't have one but a friend has a 4006, and being all stainless steel, is built like a tank. I carry a 4506...very accurate...kind of heavy and built like a tank
Cant be much different for the 4006....but I would stick with the 45

Re: Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
I have several S&W 4006 40 caliber pistols in all stainless and a 411 & 4013 with alloy frames. I also have a Ruger BH in 10mm/40 and a RIA in 40 S&W with 357 Sig and 10mm barrels.
I fitted all except the 4013 with a spare 9mm slide and have rechambered an extra barrel in 357 Sig caliber. I have a Barsto barrel in 40 for one of them but it's no more accurate than the stock S&W barrels.
Milliet sights are on two of them which helps.
I have been working with the 40 S&W since it was first introduced in 1990 or so. It's a nice caliber but I have yet to find it as accurate as the 38/357 out of a revolver.
I was issued one of the first generation of Glock pistols in 40 and after shooting it for about three years and 40,000 rounds the only original part was the barrel, too much pressure in my opinion.

Re: Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
So far, I've had similar results with the accuracy. It's decent, but nowhere near .38/.357, 44s or .45 Blackhawks, Supers or Vaqueros that I have. It's just fun to shoot and and I'm still playing with different loads. Now that components and ammo are getting easier to find, I'll be playing with it a bit more.

Re: Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
I've enjoyed working with it and I have noticed that the Ruger BH is much more accurate than the semi autos. I've thought about rechambering a cylinder for the 38-40 since I have an 1892 in that caliber.

That would be cool!
I have some 155 and 140 gr cast bullets on the way and going to load some 180 gr Hornady JHPs too to get an idea which way to go. Once I get it close to where i want it, I've been thinking of sending it off to Mr. Bowen for an action job.
These things sure are addictive.

Re: Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
I love S&W semiautos, but with 9mm and .45 versions, I just never got the bug in me to want a .40 caliber? I love my S&W 745 IPSC as much or more than my 1911 style Colts. And my Model 59 S&W has always been one of my favorites to shoot too.

Re: Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
I tried to ignore the .40 S%W since it came out. Just didn't want another caliber to reload for. I bought the Black Hawk to shoot the big pile of 10mm I have, but a friend gave me a box of .40s and told me just to try it. I found it to be a really pleasant shooter with fairly mild recoil and not a lot of noise, especially compared to the 10mm. I don't intend to give up my .44s and .45s for it, but I'd like to have a non-plastic auto to go with it.
Just feeding my ADD.

There is a PX4 on GB right now for $300 starting bid in .40 S&W...3leggedturtle wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 1:18 am I would really like own a Stoeger Cougar or a Beretta PX4 for some testing and shooting. Smiths feel good in the hand but they dont find me at a good price.
Was looking at a pre30 in 32 S&W long and saw it in his listing down below. Was also looking for a 9mm CMMG carbine, they are spendy!

If i was going .40 s&w my 1st choice would be the 4006 or 4013. Second would be the Ruger P94.

Re: Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
One of my first personally bought EDC guns was a 4006
I absolutely loved it. It would eat anything and never failed to do me proud. I carried it for several years until the 1911 bug bit me hard.

Re: Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
I own a 4106 .40 S&W....same thing as a 4006 except is double action only. They are good solid pistols...double stack mags hold 11 shots...quite heavy for their size...mine has the straight grip but arched back grips were offered too and are interchangeable to fit the shooter.
Re: Any of you guys have/ had one of the older S&W 4006,
I have always been a 3rd Generation fan, and was able to pick up one of the CHP 4006's. Great pistol, solid and heavy in a comforting sort of way. Shoots great, although a little bit low for me. Prices are not getting any lower on the old Smiths, even with 40's falling out of favor lately. I don't care for the newer plastic pistol even though they are the future.
