Just wanted to have a little fun with a .22 and make some .40 S&W empty brass. I ran a few different brands of .22lr through the little savage and all performed about the same at 25 yds. I picked up a box of Federal 165 FMJs the other day and went through the whole box shooting a couple gongs at 25 and 50 yds.
Wanted out of my office for a bit.

I have shot .40 S&W, but not in a revolver. It sounds like a good power level for a revolver for a lot of things. The .40 S&W in a semiauto is pretty close to an equal to the .38-40 handgun level loads. I like the 10mm, but like .38 Special in .357 Mag, and .44 Special in a .44 Mag, maximum performance is not always needed.
Glad you had fun!

I've had several 10mms over the years, a cold Delta and a couple of S&W 610s. The most recent S&W had a serious factory defect that they blamed on "user error", that got them a nasty letter and I traded off the 610 to someone that said he could fix it. I picked up the Blackhawk intending to get some use out of all the 10mm ammo and components I had sitting around.
Turns out it's even more fun shooting the .40 S&W that I had always ignored until a guy told me I was really missing out. Due to the Pandemic Panic, it took some scrounging to find some ammo and brass, but now I have plenty to keep me busy.
For northern Ohio, where we don't have any bears, wolves or velociraptors to be concerned about it makes an excellent trail and farm gun. I was out a friend's farm last week and had a woodchuck lined up in my sights when a noisy truck going by spooked him and I haven't seen him since.
Anyway, it was nice to get out and just do some shooting w/o any plans to do anything but pull the trigger and make some noise.

I have enough bullets for .40 and 10mm for a good while. Bought them from 3-legged Turtle. I like the .40 in my Glock and my Smith & Walther model 99. It came factory with S&W lower and Walther upper. My current loads are 7.2 grains of AA #5 and a 155 grain lead roundnose bullet from Lasercast. Good accuracy for me with enough power in the .40 without being annoying. Function in both handguns is reliable. Out of a revolver sounds great for those loads. I settled on 7.2 grains because that is where I got the best accuracy when using AA #5. My wife jokingly calls them my Werewolf loads because she read on the box that Lasercast has Silver in the bullets.

If I had that Blackhawk I might actually shoot some of the 4K+ rounds of 40 I'm sitting on. I hate chasing brass in the grass& weeds so I don't shoot my G23 much.

Great way to spend time out of the office Jason!
Exactly why I bought it, but for the 10mm, but it's just an absolute pleasure to shoot with handloads similar to Piller's. I don't have any AA powder, but Bullseye is working out just fine.

Very true. I shot up thousands of .45 ACPs that my grandfather had loaded just enough to cycle the action in his 1911A1. Over the years the powder began to break down and didn't work as well. Most still went off, but I shot up the remainder with a Model 1917 and later a 625. I did get really good at clearing a jam or FTF in a 1911 though.

I knew a guy who was a competition shooter during his college days. he called his practice rounds 'squib loads', and shot thousands of them in his 1911 between matches. they barely cycled his pistol. this to keep his trigger control, sight picture, and muscle memory in peak form continually. he considered it his edge in competition. anyone else ever use the term 'squib load' that way?
I wish Ruger would do a Blackhawk or Vaquero in 40 cal.
I ran into a mint Ruger New model Blackhawk today at my l.g.s.
It was in 41mag. I've never owned a 41 mag. before.
$550.00 out the door. I cant seem to get it out of my mind!
Anyway enjoy your time burning powder sir!
