Father's Day shakedown cruise (July 4th Update in OP)

For those of you that are interested...

A few more repairs and modifications at the dock after it was launched a couple weeks ago we got out for a great morning sail.
The largest project were fitting a set of new, but used, sails dad had scrounged in FL before he came home. Neither were made for a Hunter 30, but after a lot of tweaking and a little more to come, they will work just fine.
The winds were pretty light and Lake Erie was pretty calm, but this heavy old girl performed well beyond our expectations. We were having such a nice time we didn't want to turn back towards home but we were having Kid#2 and his family over this afternoon for a visit.

Happy Father's Day Guys!

We didn't get any sailing in yesterday, minor engine issue that took some time to work out. For you guys familiar with older diesel engines, just a simple problem can shut you down pretty easily. One of the fuel filters came loose and enough air got in and that's all it took.

We had a great evening anyway sitting in the marina watching all the fireworks. They sure burnt a lot of powder last night. :D

I'll bet. I just wouldn't feel right not living near the water. I would have a hard time adapting to that. :D

Nice but I'm more interested in how the diesel runs? Is it smooth and quiet and whats its fuel consumption.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

That little diesel will go all summer on a single tank. It is a 13 hp Yanmar, Gunny had it right, I was thinking about the big old Westerbeke 40 on my dad's old boat. It's a typical, noisy little diesel but it doesn't shake the whole boat like some I've had or been around. I used to race Tartan 10s, a sleek 33', go fast one design fleet racer. Most of those have a little 7 hp diesel to keep the weight down but, wow were they noisy! 8)

My dad really likes this old boat, it's small enough to handle on his own and since he'll be 81 in Jan, it's an easy sail. Just what he needed! :D

On Saturday I watched alot of sailboats go in and out if the harbor on Superior. Then around 3pm I lost shade and left.

There are a few lakes around here, but we need to go to the Gulf to get that much open water. I was born in a semi desert area and kind of need to see cactus occasionally.

you can get water and cacti and suffocating heat in Baja kinda like being in a rotisserie broiler with thorns surrounding you . . . :lol:
