The kind who obeys the law (however unConstitutional it may be, as in this case) and does not want a felony federal firearm charge.mescalero1 wrote:What kind of man goes in bear country unarmed?
It looks like the legislation allowing those with valid CCW's for the state wherein the park resides is going to pass, or has passed.A Montana man was mauled and severely injured in a run-in with a grizzly bear in Yellowstone
Also, he was not mauled, he was merely slapped as a warning. Few survive an actual mauling without severe crippling disfigurement, many result in death.

Glad he survived and is going to be ok...

Three days ago I discovered you need not go far for grizzly trouble. Two houses down and across the road had a grizzly wandering in the yard. Viewing through my binocular, I began to rethink my comfort level elk hunting with my SRH .480 or FA .475. With my DAS Master Hunter, I may abandon big game hunting because I don't think I can carry gun and bow during archery big game seasons in Montana.
When I bought my home, the previous owner had wired the back yard fence with 110v AC. Although I disconnected his antigrizzly device -- didn't think he was serious -- I retain his hand-painted sign: Keep Away. Electrified Fence.

Regarding potential danger wandering in grizzly country, I submit danger is more acute walking down the street day or night in any large city. Since hundreds of millions of people do it without a thought, I think you can consider each locale's danger as the price for being there.

I think its great that the bears can read in your neck of the woods!Naphtali wrote:When I bought my home, the previous owner had wired the back yard fence with 110v AC. I think you're correct when you say "do it without a thought". I believe that you personally are much safer because you are very aware of your surroundings and act according. Its those without-a-thought folks who more often get into trouble by failing to read a large city potentially hazardous situation before putting themselves in harms way...

Many thanks, Dan. Other than trusting an individual's integrity, how does a checking station confirm that the animal has not been shot, then forced in an arrow shaft? Or is the size and shape of entry wound that obvious.BigSky56 wrote:Naphtali, you can carry a firearm when you bow hunt, it's legal in Montana. Go to the Montana F&G website and look it up. danny
Checking stations aren't close to hunting areas here. And I am aware of at least one instance where three boys in their late teens shot an elk from the road during archery season, then forced an arrow into the entry wound. I believe they were caught on the road because they had a rifle in the truck. Probably the shot was heard?
In my case, it would be obvious -- .476-inch entry with obscenely large exit.

The thing that stuck out when I read this was "he was taking picutes of a female and her cub".
What an idiot. It's common knowledge that sows with cubs are the most dangerous and are to be avoided.
Too bad he got mauled but it's really his own fault.
And this has nothing to do with carrying in parks which I support.
Which reminds me, did the rules change go through? This was not legislation, but rather just a rules change.
