Launch day!

Since I was little, we've always has a sailboat or two in the family. My dad sailed from Lake Erie all the way to Trinidad on his last boat, a Tartan 37. When he got the boat back to Miami, he sold it thinking he was done sailing for a while. About a year an a half ago he called and asked me to meet at a friend's property to look at something that was going cheap. By the time I got there, he's already bought it and was digging through the cabin. The previous owner had died and our friend that was storing it wasn't sure what to do with it.
After a lot of updating, fixing, replacing , sweating and swearing we got it back in the water this morning and to it's new summer home. About the only thing that was well maintained was the tiny little diesel engine that ran great and got us from the boatyard to the marina without missing a beat. There's still a lot more work to do, but it's a great project and keeps that 80 year old pirate busy.

It's a little Westerbeke, not sure of the HP yet. Under powered like most sailboats. We used to troll off the back of the boat quite a bit as kids. It was even more fun down south, you never knew what you were going to pull up. I've caught sharks, mackerel, a huge Yellow Fin tuna and lots of barracuda.

Piller, Truer words have never been said, That thing can kill you if you aren't paying attention.

The boat is a Hunter 30' built in 1970. This was back when fiberglass boats were really just getting started and before the lightweight coring that is common today. That old boat is solid as heck. I wouldn't give much for one of the newer made Hunter sailboats. They are very lightweight, cheaply outfitted and extremely over priced.

Very cool -- for a "blow boat" (coming from an outboard guy).

My late father used to say "Work is Therapy" -- I'm sure some of the projects will challenge him, but that helps keep the mind sharp I think.

Not a fan of that serpentine "local" -- if we had those where I boat, I'd carry a shotgun! With a lever!

You've confused me with my identical twin -- as he has a smoky old 2-stroke, but he's a Mass-hole.

Mine doesn't stink -- it's a Honda 4-stroke!

(And yeah, I was born a Mass-hole too...)
