I think right now we're living in a time of some really talented gunsmiths. Almost anything you can think of can be built.

Pretty cool, but for my money, I'd just go with a standard 1894 with a replacement barrel - 1:18" twist so I could load heavier .44 cal bullets and maintain accuracy.

I have no idea why Marlin persists in the old 1:38" twist rates for their 44 mags....

I don't think you gain that much by going up to the larger caliber because you are sacrificing sectional density. Not to mention that he lops the magazine off and you loose capacity there.

I'd be willing to bet that a 300 grain .430" bullet will penetrate more than a 350 grain .500" bullet - even at a little less velocity. Just simple physics - higher sd, less friction = deeper penetration. Of course the increase friction of the 50 does count for something in the space it does penetrate to!

If I were going for a different caliber, it'd be 45 Colt so that could use 360 grain bullets.

My only concern would be the Square Bolt rather than a 95 action, but if Mic OK'd it....

I think the trigger needs a little lightening though.

That it is - that big hole in the end of the barrel is very appealing.

A .50-70 Govt ballistic equivalent in a light carbine. Neat.

My friend "Prof. Boomer" has a Mic McPherson rifle that is similar, but the action was lengthened so a stretched 50 AE can be used. I'm not sure if its on the same Marlin frame or another one. I'm pretty sure he is at the Shootist Holiday, so I can't ask him right now.

Way too much for my skinny frame. I'll just stick with my .45 Colt and +Ps!

Wonder about the 50 Beowulf in a modified 336. Uses the rim size of the 7.62 x 39, which I believe is about what the 35 rem is. Might have to check into this

Big hole in the end, looks kinda mean. I don't really see that it is getting more than about 100fps above what my handloads in my Puma .480 are getting in the same bullet weights. Since the .480 the dies, bullets, and brass are already on my loading bench, there really is not much gain for me and the Puma is 1/3 of the price to boot. If one were to be available for a good price, I might still get one for the fun of it. When it ceases to be fun then I'll quit. I sincerely hope shooting, hunting, and reloading never, ever cease to be fun.

Of all the custom gunsmith made big bore lever guns I've read about, this one is the first I like. I wouldn't mind owning one.
I'd have to have a few things changed though.
>The magazine would have to be full length, I can't stand those short ones.
>The trigger pull would have to be reduced to no more than 3.5 pounds.
>The sights would have to be changed. The front MUST be a post and the rear would be lower sitting side mount. That top mount sight is just too high.

None of my changes alter the base gun to any great extent, but they'd make me like it more.
