If it flies it dies! I'm an Olympic trap shooter at heart but I'll shoot any clay target game. Newest passion is ZZ birds , or as it's known in Europe, Helice.

Most enjoyable is walking behind my dogs shooting pheasants.

Fishing, fresh or salt water.

Not much for deer hunting anymore but I'd go elk hunting anytime.

Being able to walk out in the woods with a gun anytime I like stops me from going mad with boredom during the lockdown. Still being fit enough to log up and split my own firewood is satisfying. Both woods walking with a gun or chainsaw brings me closer to nature and further away from so called civilisation.

Since I was about 16 years old I would grab my Nikon camera and hit the wood's. Wildlife photography has always been a favorite pastime. When I was younger I would walk many miles chasing wildlife! It kept me in good shape and I stayed out of trouble!

NUMBER ONE: COMMERCIAL TROLLING FOR SALMON IN ALASKA
even though i retired from the business years ago i still dream about finding and working on schools of fish. i dream about the prep work, the boat work, but mostly about the actual time with the gear in the water. and cruising to the fish in the unparalleled seak wilderness..

then, Road Trip day or week or months, i'll go. i prefer secondary and tertiary roads, and try to always find roads i have not driven.

i take lots of photos, been obsessed with capturing IT , but alas, when i've seen IT my equipment is not up to capturing IT.

i like to turn steel into plastic and beat on it. very theraputic, don't know why. i get a kick out of using tools i've made to make tools, or boat shaped objects, or house mods.
i've been a paid weldor in the past. one of the few "jobs" i've had. love to weld, eyes in the puddle, stood me well in the fishing business. i'm my own fabricator and marine engineer and refrigeration engineer. kind of hobbies i picked up while fishing.

i keep LOTS OF PROJECTS going and work on them when i can get away from my projects

Next to anything I do with guns, like collecting them, restoring guns, or hunting with guns. My favorite thing is building hotrods. I've built old cars for over 50 years, and as much as I love owning and driving them, it's building them that tops the rest.
I'm not sure whether I enjoy the guns or the cars more? But I wont try to choose, as both have given me a lot of entertainment for many decades! These are my last 4 builds:

1939 Chev Master Deluxe opera coupe.


1971 Camaro SS 427.


1937 British Austin sedan.


1963 Falcon Futura w/468 Chev.

Totally agree with Octagon. Most everything I do is for my beautiful lady. I love to travel and take her places she would have never gone, built her this great big house that she loves and the best thing is: she never asked for any of it. It's what I wanted to do for her and her boys. Just the sweetest person I've ever known.



After that comes the collecting, cabin in the woods and hopefully another sailboat before too long.

And my latest interest since retiring is "believe it or not" FIRE WOOD CUTTING AND SPLITTING, AND FELLING TIMBER. I hate exercise for the sake of Exercise. But I love running a chainsaw, and swinging an ax or splitting maul, and it's good exercise. I have been cutting, splitting and hauling and stacking wood for the last 7-8 months, fairly often. I actually get grumpy if I don't get my fix about every day or two. And I have been cleaning fields and fence rows, and building forest roads, etc. on my farm, since I retired.

The bad thing is: it's been kind of expensive, a lot like buying guns. I have burnt firewood for heat for thirty years but didn't even own a chainsaw until a couple of years ago.

Now, I own 4 Stihl's and a Jonsered with various bar lengths, and chain styles. I have learned how sharpen a chain really good, and I have even gotten into square filing of chains. But I love it and there are no closed seasons, although summer is a little tough with the ticks and heat. (:, and the bonus is, I never buy wood anymore, but I doubt I am saving much money, except on my Gym membership (:, But chainsawing and felling trees gets expensive when you want every new chainsaw you see and hear about, and then you will want to customize them, just like adding stuff to your guns. There's always longer bars, and bigger felling dogs, and even full wrap handlebars to consider, etc.

But surly to God, I am about caught up with five chainsaws and multiple axes and felling wedges, chain files, etc. It gets in your blood, though. It can be addictive. But I need the exercise, anyway. I have lost over twenty pounds since I retired this last year, and still loosing. That's a good thing! And, I want to loose another 20 to 30 lbs, at least. Help, keep me from shooting up all of my ammunition, too. (:

I normally would say motorcycles, but the truth is that I haven't been on my Harley in more than a year.

I spend a lot of time on the Ranch, particularly on my pistol range. That relaxes me.

I have a tractor now that I need to get in shape and that's the next project.

My dad upgraded his tractor and gave me a Mahindra E350-DI. Runs great, but it needs a new seat and battery. Also has a bush hog.

After the drought, we lost a lot of trees. Mostly crappy trees like hackberrys, but even some big mesquites succombed to the lack of water. So I need to chain and pull the fallen trees out to put on burn piles. Some of the trunks are so big you cannot reach around them. But they create a fire hazard and grass won't grow under them.

I sure wish I could find a front end loader for this tractor as that would make my job much easier.

That Mahindra will be a real handy size worker, my 4430 too big except for farming. The drought killed alot of cactus at my place, but hackberrys survive anything it seems. Im wanting a perimeter road to acsess the fences, my cuz has scored a humongus antique dozer that would do the trick. The recent freeze killed a bunch of Axis, but turkeys, whitetails and pigs survived, guess some of those India deer couldn't hack it, but some did.

I have many things to keep me busy and interested. Work is still getting in the way!
I like to ride my old Harley. Riding my old sled too. We have a couple Jeeps and belong to a local Jeep club that we 4 wheel with. I enjoy working on and improving my Jeeps out in the garage. My wife and dog love to Jeep too. The dog most of all.
Of course, hunting and fishing. Anything involving guns. I'm not sure how much I'd fish if I couldn't pack a gun while I did it. For me, fishing is out of a canoe on a remote pond for brook trout on flies. Or ice fishing.
We have a couple hundred acres north of us I like to spend time on. Working, hunting, or just woods loafing. Alone or with my family. I have three sons that are all into guns too. A couple grandkids coming up to keep it all going.
To some, I may not have much. But, I have more than I ever thought I'd have. I have been blessed in this life with what is important. I thank God every day.

Fishing someplace remote is very satisfying. I can usually taste a big difference in fish of the same species when caught from cleaner water versus the water of a busy lake. Most people can. Remote waters that do not get a lot of pressure may or may not have large fish, but they are usually clean and healthy.

The rainbow "trout" they plant by the millions in lowland lakes and ponds really suck to eat. Soft, mushy flesh. Not much fight, either. Anytime the salmon are running, it's combat fishing like you've never seen. I refuse to do that BS elbow to elbow fishing.
