The 1894 Winchester in .32-40 got it done tonight
Tonight the most recent old time of mine, I just got it about three weeks ago, an 1894 Winchester in .32-40 got it done tonight. Shot this 5 point buck at about 50 plus yards, went a couple hundred yards, bleeding like a stuck pig all the way in the snow before he gave up the ghost. Not bad for an old gun made in 1909.

Nice! Nothing beats dropping them with an old Winchester.

What does that load make, 1600, maybe 1700 fps?
Handsome rifle. I don't own a '94, but that would be the style.

Re: The 1894 Winchester in .32-40 got it done tonight
The 32 caliber bullets never became as popular as the 30 caliber family. Not sure why, and I am not trying to start any arguments. I have a Win model 94 in 32 Win Special. Just my opinion, but the 170 grain bullet from it is every bit of an excellent bullet for anything from deer on down. I would like for a factory load of maybe 190 grains for bigger game, but it may not be needed. The 32 Special is a little more powerful than the .32-40, but not too much. Not every animal needs to be field dressed, skinned, turned inside out, and jellied by hunter using some sort of super magnum which makes his shoulder pop out of socket on every shot. The pictures show that the .32-40 when used properly will still do the job. Almost anyone could have followed that blood trail even though the deer didn't go far. .32 caliber works.
